Hello everybody,

this is my first thread here, so I hope that I write in the good category and so on, if not tell me and I will change it.

My problem is that I have massive frame drops in BF1 multiplayer. I can run the campaign in ultra resolution, but in multiplayer I drop massive frames, from 75 frames to sometimes under 20! It's close to unplayable 🙁

My specs are: GTX 1060, AMD A8-6600K, 16 GB RAM, SSD, win10 64.

Things I have already tested:

I have already installed the drivers new, after uninstalling them with Display driver uninstaller.
I tried to play with and without v-sync, I turned DirectX 12 on and off.
I capped the framerate at 60,75,80 and no change.
I also tried to run multiplayer with low settings and still had frame drops.
I unpacked my CPU cores and it improved my CPU usage (less usage in task manager), but again no change in frames.

It's to despair... I only want to play and then this...
I now download 3DMark and try to run it, because I read that it can show deeper information.

I hope that somebody can help me 😀

Greetings,

shaddy92

edit: ideas: could it be an option in my network settings?
could overclocking make a difference? But I am unsure that it's possible, since my core temp goes sometimes up to 70 degrees and I have read that this is the max temp?

Look on the official EA battlefield forum and you will find endless threads about poor performance in BF1 from users with far higher system specs than yours. It is a fact that BF1 is currently poorly optimised for PC and both Nvidia and AMD are going backwards in their efforts to provide stable drivers for the game. In fact the latest game patch broke SLI and Crossfire (dual GPU setups) to such an extent that Dice are actively working with both Nvidia and AMD to work out the fixes to the flickering textures problem within the game.

Be patient, don't tinker with anything and wait for DICE to improve the game via patch updates....

Its your Cpu. Needs a well clocked i5 (4.2+ on a i5 6600k) or a i7/fx8350 with a good clock.

It isn't broken really, just CPU demanding. I am locked at 70fps ultra and even with 50 players on a map I don't see frame drops. CPU usage is in the high 90s at tha point though.

I don't have the money for a new cpu and it's not that bad so I would at least expect that the game runs okay!

However thank you guys, I will be patient and wait for a solution from DICE!

Hmm that's a bad message for me... The CPU is still new for me, thus I made a bad deal to take the better graphics card.
The problem now is that I would need not only a new CPU, but also a new motherboard.
But at least do I know that I have to save money and upgrade my CPU.
Thank you for the information! Only a bit sad to know that I made a bad deal :)

Btw am I right informed that i5 would be around 240$ and i7 begin at 300$? The motherboard would then be around 100$ extra or so? And how big are the performance differences between e.g. an i5-6600k and an i7-4770?

Could overclocking be a solution? This would need a better CPU cooler, wouldn't it?

Your cpu its perfectly fine for that game, your temp should not be hitting 70, you need a new cooling system this is what is causing your issues, everything is fine but then your cpu is over heating.
I had this issue, I bought myself a "Master Cooler V8 GTS" now the temp never goes above 50 even after over-clocking and the issues you mentioned are now gone, you might also want to look at your RAM speed, just being 16g I imagine its at least above 2400 which should be acceptable for this game in a dual channel.
If your cooler is already good then find its settings and make it go full throttle all the time because 70 is unacceptable.
Good luck!

It's around a fx 6300 I think. That CPU is ok in bf1 but I warn of frame drops based on personal experience with a 3450 and a intel 6600k. The intel 6600k is somewhat more powerful than the amd 6600k and WILL max and cause fps drops unless its decently overclocked. At 4.4ghz, its quite a bit more capable than an AMD 6600...

Clearly the op is seeing frame drops. So it isn't ok.

The last question, which intel processor would you recommend? i5 6600k, i7-4770 or another one?
And what do you think about the FX 8350?

Again thank you very much for the nice and fast reactions!

6600k is sweet spot for gaming, although the i7 6700k does come into its own for some titles (BF1 actually one of them, although a well clocked 6600k will do fine).

4770 is an OK choice, but in games which are not heavily threaded, it may be outperformed by a strong 6600k.

I wouldn't bother with anything AMD now until Zen arrives, personally.

Thank you for all your help!
I have now look at so many CPUs and I am a bit confused, you hear so many opinions. Can somebody please help me to rank them? I have also looked at this list http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-cpus,3986.html. Do you agree with this list?
Other CPUs that I have found as possible good ones are: Intel Core i5-6600k, Intel Core i7 4790K, Intel Core i5 4690, Intel Core i5 4690K.
These are really many options and I am so confused. I also don't want to make the same mistake again :)

And does somebody know if the CPU cooler Alpenföhn Sella and Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3 would also be okay?
I also think that it would be a good idea to change from DDR3 to DDR 4?
