Hello,
My friend has been having problems with the Battlefield 4 beta on his PC. He is running an AMD 8350 and a 7870 graphics card. However when he tries to run Battlefield 4 he gets CPU usage warnings. I know it is in Beta but surely it cant be that bad?! Any ideas of how to fix this?

Thanks

I have seen benchmarks of high CPU usage from the BF4 beta benchmarks for an FX 8350. FX 6300 completely maxes out. Even a 3930k uses all 6 physical cores and at least 1 hyperthread. This is all according to the beta benchmarks that have been floating around on here. BF4 will make use of all 8 cores on that CPU. If he is running anything remotely cpu intensive in the background, he will have a bad time with CPU usage.

The fix is to turn off the CPU usage warnings. Yes I'm serious. I'm not 100% sure what would issue this warning as its not built into Windows. I know Norton added something like that. Loading the PC when playing games is not an issue unless the game plays like crap of course.

you are the second person to post thing (that I've seen) in the last few minutes. Other poster said their GPU was only running at like 40% and I suggested that it was a CPU bottleneck, and without having played the BETA, it seems this post confirms it.

Multiplayer is VERY cpu intensive anyways, let alone a beta test.

Thanks guys. I dont think it is a bottleneck as it is a 7870 and I have seen many people playing on Ultra with the GPU. He is not running anything in the background. Just Origin and Battlefield 4.

Thanks again.

I'm running BF4 beta 64 player at 1080p on ultra (system specs in sig). at 55-60fps I was seeing 70-90%+ GPU load most of the time with frequent spikes to 100%. On the CPU I was seeing consistent 75-95% load, but never saw more than 98% for brief moments. Should also note that it wasn't even running at full turbo clock as it bounced between 3.2 and 3.4 on all four cores. Occasionally it would spike to 3.6 on all four but only for a moment. Was also running a browser with several tabs open and about half a dozen other programs on the 2nd display at the same time.

I find it odd that an 8 core CPU running at much higher clocks would be maxed out in this game, especially if it's able to use all those cores... *scratches head*. I know it's not just about number of cores and clock speeds, but maybe the beta just isn't very well optimized yet for the multiple core usage...?

It maxes out an FX 6300's 6 cores and makes quite a bit of use of both a 3930k and FX 8350. It is made to handle more cores and that is what it is doing. This title is going to be very CPU intensive to say the least.

Yeah, I have a 3570k at 4.2GHz and as far as I know, it is not anywhere near 100% usage. Apparently the game is silky smooth until he starts to move and the game lags way too much to be playable. I hate how DICE have released this and yet so many people cant even run it... Thanks for the info.

I guess what I'm wondering is how my 4-core CPU, which isn't even the top of the line part, can run this as well as other programs at the same time and not be consistently maxed out, yet the 8-core 8350 is getting maxed out?

Okay. We built the PC a couple of days ago though so there shouldn't be any programmes running which are killing his CPU power. The weird thing is that the BF4 beta was running fine for me yesterday but when I updated it today, I am getting Lag spikes.

Updated the beta or windows? Either one could be causing you issues. That is the very nature of beta. I remember doing the beta for Mists of Pandaria. It was down right horrible for quite some time.
