Question Big freezes/lag spikes - due to GPU usage drops?

For the last few months I've been having some large freezes on my PC. Over some headbanging couple of days, I've tried to fix it. So far, I've replaced the power supply, rewired a lot of the internals, and some other fixes.
Every few minutes, my PC gets a few second lag spike, and they become longer and more frequent depending on how long my PC is on.

Here's a FurMark test logged with afterburner - you can see the FPS drops line up with GPU usage drops, and some other stats.

I'll attach a couple images too.

(the high framerate at the end is just where I've quit the test)

Hardware specs:
  • Ryzen 5 2600
  • GTX 1060 6GB
  • 2*8 GB Corsair Vengeance
Any help is appreciated, this issue is becoming a major headache.

Closing all background processes possible has lessened the issue, but as the PC stays on longer, the spikes come back.

Edit: ]Turns out that closing everything didn't actually fix the issue; it just delayed it. The real fix was windows slideshow backgrounds taking a little spike out of CPU usage, so the GPU usage dropped as the CPU wasn't sending anything to render.

Turning this off has fixed the issue.
