Hello people ,

neither my BIOS or OS can use only 4gb out of 8gb installed .

I already swapped RAMs and even tried to run them each separately and they are both working .
I also tried to switch them to the B slots , again without success .
In the BIOS it is shown that only 4gb of memory is installed , but in the advanced mode / tools it is clearly shown that both DIMM slots are populated (screenshots) .

CPU-Z is also showing 8gb but Windows again only 4 .

Only once I had success in getting 8gb and that was 2 days ago when i was switching CPUs , while taking off the old one , I entered BIOS to reset settings and noticed that only 4gb is installed . So i tried all the steps i did above and while switch RAMs for like 3rd time I had succes of BIOS getting 8gb . But somehow I cannot achieve it now .

this is my spec :

MOBO : ASUS M5a99x EVO (UEFI BIOS)
CPU : AMD FX-6300 @ 4Ghz
GPU : AMD Sapphire radeon HD 7850 OC @ 2GB
RAM : GOODRAM Play 8GB 1333Mhz
HDD : WD 1TB
SSD : Kingston hyper x 120GB
PSU : 600 W

Anyone got solution for this ?

I have a system with this same error, I'd like to be provided an answer as well :)

I did see someone on another post say to reseat your CPU, basically uninstall then reinstall, however this did not work in my case.

Also there is no damage to the CPU socket or the ram sockets , CPU is freshly seated with brand new thermal paste . I have just upgraded to new CPU but had same issue while having the old one .

There's nothing showing up on the screenshot. I'll probably have to check when I get home. I'm at school right now, and the website used for the picture might be blocked :/

32 bit OS wouldn't prevent the BIOS from seeing the correct amount.

I have also tried this guide :

1.type msconfig in the Search programs and files box, and then click msconfig in the Programs list.

2.In the System Configuration window, click Advanced options on the Boot tab.

3.Click to clear the Maximum memory check box, and then click OK.

4.Restart the computer.

At first it changed to something over 8000mb but after restart it changed back to around 3900 and now even if I change it , it changes itself back to 3900s .

Thanks for trying to help me .
I have checked the forum but it is about bit different issue and in this case he haave problems even starting system and he have beeps from bios .
Even the solution is 3yr old and is about updating BIOS . Mine is updated .

So..... I just went and messed with my machine in the back and installed a new CPU (4560k replacing a 4560). All 8GB of RAM are now being seen.

If I put the old CPU back in and boot to Windows, I get the same 4GB available out of 8GB. I do not know where the correlation is here... but my issue was the CPU supposedly. Idk I'm lost on this one lol

The thing is that ijust upgraded CPU . But the problem was also while I had my old one as explained above .
I had success once while swappping RAMs for couple of time , I might as well try to do that again .

I am not at the PC atm , but i think it is on default as enabled . But I am not sure .
In task manager only 4gb are shown .
U mean that or was it irony ? 😀

Tomorrow I am going to try putting another pair of RAMs to see if there is problem in RAMs or not . But I really dont think so because they work separately .

I wonder how it worked that one time when I was swapping RAMs , cause I cannot achieve it again ....

Same thing , they were pair of 8gb so 16 gb in total , but only 8 gb recognized . however , i then put my RAMs not in dual channel so in a1 a2 not a1 b1 , and they seem to work like that , all 8gb of my RAM is recognized and like 7 is usable .

Will this be stable like that ?

It will be stable, but means one of the memory channels is not working right. You can check ther cpu cooler for being seated properly, otherwise might the motherbord or cpu itself be not working right and an rma should be possible if not to old.
Cpu could be checked for bent pins too.Make sure when taking the cooler of to put back with new paste.
