Playing a game last week when my PC froze. Rebuilt my whole rig in December and have had no issues until this. Restart, same issue, try a different game, same issue, before I could try a few more things to troubleshoot, it now only boots BIOS. Reset CMOS, no change. Now it won’t even show display. Anyone have any ideas? This has been plaguing me for a week.

The fact that it displays your BIOS and nothing thereafter points to your GPU being the root issue or a configuration that is causing the motherboard to kill the process before booting (Failing self-test)

Try the following to confirm the above theory:

-Connect your display to your motherboard directly and remove your graphics card and see if your display remains on or returns to black. If this works and you have display you may be experiencing an issue with your GPU where hopefully re-downloading the drivers will fix this, or replacing the card at cost.

-Boot into safe mode and see if you can modify any settings or get back the POST screen.

If you are unable to proceed from here let me know.

Also providing your machine's information such as what types or brands of components are in it may help us get you closer to an answer.

Thank you Mind Games,
Got the display working. Won’t let me go into safe mode. Tried a different HDD and it didn’t work either.
Running Win10 With: i7 9700k. ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero mobo. EVGA RTX2080.

Yes, display is working. Can’t get it into Safe Mode. Did not previously try F12. Says “Screen capture failed. Please ensure that USB flash drive with available space is plugged in, and try again.”

Still can’t get into Safe Mode. I’m going to start swapping parts and seeing if something failed. It’s odd that everything was working perfectly fine until it suddenly wasn’t.
