Im just looking ofr a YES or NO since I know assistance cannot be made for passwords.

Indian Tech Support scammer put a PW on this ladies bios. Is there a way around it short of paying the scammer hundreds of dollars for the pw? Yes or No. Thats all i'm asking. Yes or No. thanks.

Solution

Not entirely true. Powershell and the WMI object can be used (not trivial to do) to set virtually any BIOS settings exposed through WMI. Doesn't even require direct access, the script can connect to WMI remotely. All new systems now require that the BIOS password already be set in order to change it and will not allow one to be set by script if one...
For a bios password you'll need to contact the laptop manufacture as it varies between them. You sure it's a bios password? This is next to impossible to do remotely as it requires you to be in the bios to set. I have never seen or heard of a system that will allow you to set a bios password from the OS.

That is pretty much impossible to do remotely.

How do you know it is on the BIOS?

While it's near-impossible to set the BIOS password remotely, it is possible for someone pretending to be helpful tech support on the phone to trick a user into setting the BIOS password to be a long, complex sequence which they have no hope of remembering.

"Next, you need to type in this exact sequence, otherwise it won't work and your computer will be unfixable, and you'll have to buy a new one. Are you ready? Here it is: F%ewq9h2&hHFh2."

Solution

it was an old lady who let one of those indian tech support scammers remote into her. If you havent heard of it look on youtube, its widespread and has been for years.

all i know is that it shows the Toshiba ascreen and then asks for a password, no post screen no nothing. perhaps itr wasnt a indian tech support scam, the ladies husband said he had no idea what happened but some say that out of shame and embarrassment. maybe she did just put on a pw herself, but i would be amazed if she did so by accident.

maybe i am wrong, but i get teh toshiba screen then a black screen with blue box asking ofr pw. i will just tell him its a brick unless she can remember what she set it to. I will check the manufactures site too, i wont ask beyond this since it gets into questionable practices. thnx.
