Hello.

Currently, My ASUS K55VM-SX027v currently boots using BIOS.

But I wish it to boot using UEFI. So, I need to the change the HDD from MBR to GPT.

Unfortunately, I can't find anywhere if my PC is compatible with GPT.

Do you think it is safe for me to do the conversion?

if your PC has an UEFI then Windows 10 will insist on using GPT and you will get an error at the stage where you choose where to put install, if this is case and you get the error, the answer is to delete all the partitions on the drive and leave it empty as Win 10 will create what it needs after you click next

your latest bios is from 2012, so that is 1 clue. Anything after 2010 should have uefi. need to confirm it still. IT came with 7 or 8 drivers so my hunch is it should support gpt

manual doesn't help a lot: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/K55VM/E7187_eManual_K55VM_K55VS_Z104.pdf

do you see any choices in the boot tab for csm mode? do you have secure boot? if answer to either is yes then you have a UEFI - you need to have a UEFI to use GPT, that is why i was looking for one.

I have searched for it, and no CSM mode available. Is it possible this is due to the disk being in MBR? Because I can change it

CSM would be there regardless of if you were MBR or GPT.

this isn't your exact model and its how to set it up to boot win 7 but your bios may have similar menus
I actually didn't notice that the side USB port was blue (I didn't pay attention). So, I plugged my USB SD card adapter to the opposite USB socket (the only black one, USB 2.0). In the BIOS, I set Advanced > SATA configuration to AHCI, Boot > Launch CSM > Enabled, Boot > Boot option priorities > (appropriate order), Security > Secure boot control > Disabled. I also updated the Flash from 4.6 to 4.11

have a look on asus site for laptop and check you have newest bios, might need an upgrade to get the menus.

I have to go but will look at this tomorrow :)

Unfortunately, no new BIOS update, since 2012. I'm going to reinstall Win10, since this PC is an upgrade from Win7. Maybe I can then change from MBR to GPT and from BIOS to UEFI, during the installation process
