OK its an old motherboard I get that but I need to try to update the bios. My father wants to upgrade to windows 10 but it is saying that his CPU isn't supported, which it should be as my older processor is supported. core 2 quad 6600 vs his core 2 quad 9400/9450(I do not remember which at the moment). I fixed MY issue with a bios update but I cannot seem to get HIS bios to update. As far as I can tell the motherboard doesn't support f7 bios update, nor does the express update work for me. I also cannot seem to follow directions for ISO update because Intel doesn't give an ISO, and as far as I can tell that means I cannot make a bootable either. I'm lost and seeking guidance. Any help is much appreciated!

You need to enable F7; this thread may help: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/860de8b7-c502-42a9-8bd9-da826a380974/cant-update-the-bios?forum=w7itproappcompat

Have you copied the Recovery BIOS Update [PR0071.BIO] to a CD or a USB key? http://samarthparikh.blogspot.ca/2011/12/how-to-recover-update-bios-for-intel.html http://www.manualslib.com/manual/421499/Intel-Blkdg31pr-1333fsb-Ddr2-800-Audio-Lan-4sata-Uatx-10pack-Motherboard.html?page=52#manual I've used that procedure before and it worked fine.

@MarkRM In the title, intel dg31pr
@GhislainG I cannot see that in the bios. Maybe I don't know where to look but I didn't see it. I tried to copy the file to a USB and a CD but it didn't open anything otherwise. I tried pressing f7 and checked bios but it didn't do anything.
EDIT: I also tried to remove the jumper and run it that way, but it posts and beeps 4 times, which apparently means the timing is off or something along those lines.

I managed to update the bios by downloading it via Intel integrator toolkit and it is now up to date. However windows 10 update still does not want to install saying that his processor is not support still. I can now confirm that he is running a core 2 quad q9400 and that CPUID (program) states that it supports MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4.1, EM64T, VT-x
I notice that PAE is not listed here, but I managed to update to windows 10 anyway. Initial research doesn't tell me whether either processor supports it, but would that be the issue that I am seeing?
Edit: [strike]I realized that I had a windows 8.1 compatibilty check on that computer. Ran it and it says hardware is compatible where it wasnt before. Wondering if the get windows 10 app needs to be reset to update now.[/strike] Is now downloading windows 10. Thanks guys
