Hi

I've got two hard drives both NTFS format and another in NTFS but on
the raid card that I can't view.

I'm now aware I have to upgrade the highpoint drivers to get it the
raid card working in XP but how can I do it without a floppy?

I have a floppy on my laptop but the network link only works in
windows. I do have a DVD burner, but can I upgrade the flash from
that? Last thing I want is to kill the BIOS due to the program
expecting to be able to write to a DVD.

Thanks.

Rich

You're confusing me, the HPT "drivers" are simply installable in Windows
like any other drivers. If however, you're referring to the HPT "BIOS",
that needs to be flashed to be updated. It would be helpful if we knew the
mobo model, since I'm not positive if we're talking about an "integrated"
HPT interface on the mobo (e.g., ala Abit KT7A-RAID), or simply a separate
HPT PCI card. In the former case, the HPT BIOS is "integrated" into the
mobo BIOS, you can only apply the HPT BIOS by applying a mobo BIOS w/
appropriatelt integrated HPT BIOS. If it's the latter, then you can DL the
latest HPT BIOS from the Highpoint website and flash normally.

You can create a "bootable" CD version of any BIOS update, of *any* floppy
disk image in fact, that's pretty easy using something like Nero (it will
initialize as an A: drive, just as if it was a floppy). Just make sure you
don't attempt to save the *old* BIOS on the BIOS update command, since
obviously, the CD media is read only at that point! But I see no reason it
wouldn't work.

Hi

Its a Abit KT7A-RAID, old bios that doesn't support XP.

Thanks.

Ok, then I suggest reviewing the following post under this same NG:

"KT7A-RAID/Windows XP installation problem" date 4/3, same problem, same
solution.

Thanks.

Thats the one that I read the other day to get the bios upgrades for
the board. Problem is that I do not have a floppy drive to boot into
DOS to flash it.

Tempted to just use a Bootable DVD with the files on but will the
bios flash still work on non-readable media?

Thanks.

Don't you have access to another pc to borrow the floppy drive? You don't
even have to remove it. Just pull the case up close and snake the cables
over. You could buy one for $10. Well worth it just to have around to
simplify bios upgrades.

Say again? You have a "RAID card"? Is this a standalone Highpoint based PCI
card, or are you talking about a motherboard with an integrated controller?

Eh? If all you want to do is upgrade the WinXP device drivers, you don't
need floppy disks at all. All you need to do is download the drivers you
want, extract the zip file out to a folder on your HD somewhere, and then
use Device Manager's advanced driver update wizard to install them.

If it's actually the Highpoint BIOS on a standalone PCI controller card
you're talking about upgrading, all you have to do is make a bootable floppy
or CD, and copy the Highpoint BIOS flash and rom files over to it. Boot the
PC off the floppy, and flash the HPT BIOS from the command line...

Can't you use Flashmenu?

Yes, that'll work fine. Bootable CD-RW/DVD-RW etc. with the Awdflash and
BIOS ,bin file, plus Abitfae.bat and you're in business.

Thanks, will try the DVD option the weekend. Really can't be
bothered with opening my 3rd system up for the floppy, trying to dump
the things totally. But as I found its a bit tricky, wish I kept my
pararell zip drive now.

Thanks.

Never did try flashing via a DVD, managed to get my USB hard drive
working in DOS, so just flashed from there.

All problems now fixed and got the highpoint drives and hard drives
working great.

Thanks.
