I'm having a really tough time just getting my newly assembled machine to show signs of being powered. I have a BioStar M7VIF and a fairly generic case, 300W PS. I've got all the front connectors properly connected, I know my power cord is good, etc. I have power connected to the mainboard, but when I hit the power button NOTHING happens. I have the power supply turned on, everything. It's got RAM, it's got a CPU and video card installed, etc. Could someone clue me in as to what I should look for or what might be the problem?? The only thing I can think of at this point is that the power supply might be faulty but, unfortunately I don't have a spare lying around to test that theory with.

Could be power switch lead is backwards. Or one of the 4 pin connectors from power supply needs to be moved to different device or unplugged. I would start by reseating ram and video card. If that doesn't do it. I would remove mobo and place on static bag with just video card, ram, cpu\heatsink and try booting up. You can also try just one stick of ram at a time, or rotating the ram to different slots.

For the sake of gaining better knowledge and understanding, why would I want to do those things? Is it something to do with a current or voltage by putting it on the static bag, in effect "grounding" it?

If none of these things work...is my power supply bad?

I just managed to get another power supply that I think is still good and it still did nothing, this is getting so upsetting. Any suggestions anyone? I tried all the thing mentioned above too and, nothing. Not even so much as a sound or a whir of a fan. :'(

yeah your motherboard could be shorting out somewhere...
thus plugging thign in on a antistatic mat ensures it doesnt happen.

i also suggest you remove all unnecessary devices. go with the bare minimum, agp card, keyboard mouse & harddrive.

read your motherboard manual... are there any LED's on the board that indicate that power is getting to the board?
