Black screen after installing Nvidia GeForce 310M driver on my MSI CX623 notebook

Hey guys, the title actually says it all. I installed the nvidia geforce 310m driver and everytime its enabled and I try to switch the notebook on theres only a black screen...

Ive looked for solutions but most of them are for computers where you can easily take graphics cards in and out, but I can't do that because im a newbie, i dont wanna open the laptop because I might mess something up

Please help!

How did you find the Nvidia GeForce 310M Driver ? I'm think you probably have downloaded the wrong driver. I will suggest you find an Uninstaller software, remove the driver then find the correct driver from the Nvidia website.

You can also let the driver utility on the Nvidia website scan your PC to detect the correct driver for you Notebook.

I used Nvidias website to detect the correct driver (because im lazy xD) but still i get a black screen D:, ive tried using an uninstaller software and still nothing :/

A lot of people are having the black screen issues with that particular driver so I'm starting to think MSI does have a specific driver which is what was originally shipped with the Notebook.

I will suggest you go back to the original MSI driver and see if the issue is still there. I had a similar issue with a Sony Vaio months ago and had to revert back to Sony's drivers. You will need to visit the MSI Support website and find the driver they recommend.

Sometimes although the card is a Geforce Card, they are made specifically for a certain OEM so the drivers tend to be proprietary.

Well firstly I think that it is certainly for Nvidia because the sticker on the laptop even says 'Nvidia GEFORCE 310M CUDA 1GB' and theres no other driver for it except the nvidia one D:

Well you see I got this laptop like a year or two ago and I didn't know that I had a GeForce graphics card until my i saw my cousins laptop (he has the same one as mine) and the nvidia drivers worked fine on his 🙁. So yeah this is the first time

I understand. So i'm guessing you have checked the Notebooks spec through a program like Speccy and have confirmed the card on the Notebook is indeed the Nvidia GeForce 310M ?

So when I used speccy this is what it said:
Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1366x768@60Hz)
Intel HD Graphics (MSI)
Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (MSI) (this said standard VGA graphics because I un-installed the nvidia driver for the time being, but in device manager it says This device cannot start. (Code 10) )


But again i wen onto nvidias driver page and did the automatic scan and it still came up with the 320.18 driver, even when i try previous drivers which are compatible for my GeForce 310M theres still a black screen...

Most of the time a Code 10 GPU error means "Dead Card" unfortunately. But lets try something else now.

Can you check to make sure the Notebook has the latest MSI BIOS Updates ?

at boot screen press f8 to boot into safe mode. Remove all drivers then roll back while in safe mode then roll back to the previous ones. Seems like your GPU and the new drivers don't get along

Here is a slight update for you. I did ask you previously if MSI had a specific driver probably modified to work with the GPU and I think you indicated your cousin used Nvidia Drivers and they worked.

Well I have just found the MSI support page for your Notebook with all the Drivers you need. If you want your Notebook back and working again, you will need to be patient and will to try. Here is the link below:

I will strongly suggest you take the time to try what I have suggested as MSI does indeed have a driver for the GPU. The fact that your cousin's worked does not mean yours will without checking what updates are available.

Find an Uninstaller software like Total Uninstall or Revo Uninstaller, and remove any traces of the Nvidia Website Drivers you have installed, then carefully reinstall the Drivers supplied by MSI.

Again, please make sure you check your BIOS version to make sure you have the latest.
