Hi,
i hope this is the correct sub-forum.

So i have this problem where my screens suddenly turns black while playing. When this happens my only option is to hold the power button so it shuts down.
This is what i noticed so far:
  • I first noticed this while playing Path of Exile around summer last year but i thought it was the games fault and stopped playing. I barely played any games up to now.
  • It happens anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour after starting a game, i don't necessarily have to play, being afk seems to be the same.
  • Sometimes the sound is distorted too. Other times i can hear it just fine and even hear how my character moves when i press WASD.
  • So far it happend in Genshin Impact, Borderlands GOTY Edition, Modded Minecraft, Totally Reliable Delivery Service and Path of Exile.
  • It didn't happen in Minecraft Windows 10 Edition, Pikuniku and Clustertruck.
  • I ran FurMark for several hours, everything was fine, normal temperatures.
  • I wiped my entire SSD and reinstalled windows, no change.
  • Memtest86 showed no errors after 4 passed tests
  • the reliability monitor shows a lot of errors during those black screens, mainly:
    • Hardware error: LiveKernelEvent with these codes: 1a8, 141, 187, 117
    • dwm.exe APPCRASH
Here's my specs:
  • i5 6600k
  • GTX 980 (Palit Jetstream)
  • be quiet pure power 430W
  • Gigabyte GA-B150M-D3H
  • 16GB HyperX DDR4 RAM
I searched for this type of problem and found a few threads but sadly those lead to nowhere. Usually the person never posts a conclusion or buys a new GPU.
At this point i assume my GPU is faulty too, except that i think those errorless furmark runs are strange.
I don't really want to buy a new one without being sure it's the source of the problem.

Any ideas are appreciated

Sure, I didn't expect a magic button but i also don't want to buy parts without knowing if it's gonna solve my problem. I don't have that kind of money.
Is there another good way to test my psu or overall system except with games? Some sort of stress test maybe?
