Blank screen on installing gtx 660 to dell precision 690

Trying to upgrade my graphics card from radeon hd 5450 to gtx660 in my dell precision workstation.

Intel core 2 quad x5355 @ 2666mhz

Dell omy171 motherboard

lg electronics w2246 22inch moniter with vga connection

8gb ram.

So the card fits in nicely, finding the 6 pin power supply was no problem at all. Switch on, no signal coming to monitor (works with previous card), the couple of beeps tell me the computer is booting though.

I've tried updating my bios from A1 to A8, same thing. Changed power settings to best performance, no change.

I assume it can't be a driver problem as it's not even loading the bios page.

The power supply is 750w, so should be plenty for this card.

Errrr help!? Is there something I'm missing here?

A little bit more information; I just tried resetting all the bios setting to the factory default as I read that solved a lot of hardware issues. So I tried installing again, same problem, blank screen but sounds like the computers booted normally otherwise...

I checked and the fans on the GPU are running.......and also noticed that when left on for a little while the main power supply fans started really going into overdriver....I was wondering if that was indicitive of anything? Though I didn't think it was a power supply issue.

OK, so a little bit more info.

I've double checked pretty much everything at this point...in terms of power my actual pcie slot has 150w, maximum card power is 140w, so that should be fine too.

I've found a lot of people installing graphics cards on older machines having trouble with a locked in bios that refuses to recognize newer graphics cards...so I guess if that's the problem I'm a little stuck.

Unfortunately it's not a solution, just another question.

I'm trying to install a GTX 750 or a GTX750ti into my 690 and having no luck.

I had an EVGA GTX750 and threw it in the machine and no go - blank screen.

So I started reading up on it and found that it's most likely the UEFI bios that's not included in the earlier Dell machines. So, ok. I find out that the GTX750ti from MSI actually has a switch on the video board that is supposed to make it compatible with the non-UEFI boards. So I bought an MSI GTX750ti. And of course, it doesn't boot either, no matter which way the switch is set.

Now I'm trying to figure out where to go, as I have TWO nice video cards, neither of which apparently work in this machine.

Any ideas from the crowd?

Oh, and BTW, it's likely the high speed of the fans you were getting meant you had the cover off the side. It detects the "cooling solution is compromised" and kicks up the fans to make sure the system isn't damaged.

fyi: but I have Dell precision 690, Rev 1 Motherboard, and it's compatible with Radeon HD 7950 GPU.
