This is pure bull. I don't have D3, but this is rubbish on account of Blizzard. Ok they need time to check credit card numbers against database of know stolen or forged cards. Can someone remind me when D3 was released, why couldn't they check them all in the mean time. Heck they could do it at purchase time.

[citation][nom]kenny406[/nom]Fun Fact: Blizzard is still owned by the same company it always has been: Vivendi. Vivendi merged with Activision & changed the name of it's gaming division to "Activision-Blizzard" but Vivendi still has a controlling interest (52%) of the company, JUST AS IT ALWAYS HAS! In other words, it's dumb to blame all this on "Activision." Vivendi is one of the largest media conglomerates in the world. It's MUCH larger than EA or Activision could ever hope to be.[/citation]
Actually 80% of Vivendi is owned by General Electric, not joking.

[citation][nom]jamoise[/nom]for all you people who don't seem to get it, it seems there is enough credit card fraud going about for them to need to implement this. the RMAH was implemented mostly to deal with gold spammers and people going outside the game to just buy gold anyway. thing is, the Korean or Chinese gold farmers cant sell their gold in the USD auction house because of their location and version of game they have to buy which locks their RMAH location to their own local Auction house. so what do they do? they get make a starter edition USA account. unfortunately they cant spam gold farming spam messages due to the limits on the starter edition, so instead they us a fraudulent credit card to buy a digital version of the game and for the few days it takes for them to get flagged, they spam general chat with gold selling adds. their account gets revoked a few days later due to credit card fraud but they have already spammed their gold buying messages for a few days in general chat. they sign up for another blizzard account, use another fraudulent credit card number and buy it again. Rinse repeat. never ending spam. the 3 day lockout should almost completely eliminate the gold farmers spam. Have the implemented a similar lockdown for WoW starter accounts? I hope they do.[/citation]
Of course they could help the situation a lot more by giving offline play, you know like Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 had successfully and get rid of the RMAH altogether.

When starcraft or diablo came out, it was in every pc shop for years (5 years even). But now, gamers dont even know Diablo in my place. They loss the charm in the masses and they are loosing the old players who use to like their games.

I only bought it because I knew it already but now I hated it. But I wonder if anybody is still buying it next time they release it.

Besides torchlight 2, any other good games out there. One that you don't always need to be online 😛

then you should go play Torchlight 2 which is coming out in maybe a few months and made by the original designers of Diablo 1 and 2. I played Torchlight, spent about an hour or 2 on it and got bored cause it was single player and couldn't do anything with other people at all.

I'm only in Act 2 right now and all I can think is that this game is Diablo 2 with prettier graphics and less skill advancement. You're stuck with 4 skills that don't really upgrade and that's pretty much it. I'm bored of it already.

@Bluestar

"I know fraud happens in every aspect of every market, but I've never been told that type of thing while ordering 1500$ in Pc parts from newegg just to be sure I'm actually going to pay"

Actually, "hun," every online retailer tells you *exactly* that with every single purchase. Your order is NOT processed until your funds clear. Most of the time that happens within a day, but sometimes it takes up to 3 days. That's not some Blizzard scam, that's how transactions with a credit/debit card work. The initial verification might not go through for a number of reasons, the bank could be doing maintenance on their verification servers, the connection from the company to the bank server could fail due to a network outage somewhere, you might not have enough funds in the account because the check you just deposited hasn't cleared yet, etc. They don't just scream ZOMG FRAUD the first time it fails, they try to verify again a few minutes later, and then a few hours later, and then the next day, up to 72 hours.

Believe it or not, its a system designed not to inconvenience the purchaser, but that doesn't mean there aren't ever problems with online transactions.

how is blocking someones full access for 3 days nickel and diming anyone??
there is no monetary gain...

[citation][nom]Kami3k[/nom]So the actual point is who cares about the customer as long as we can nickle and dime them to death still.[/citation]

It's not harming most of their customers, most of the diablo 3 fans preordered and have been playing for a month already..... this really doesn't effect hardly anyone except late joiners... and it's not really that bad.. some could have all restrictions removed in hours... and mean while, it protects the current players, like me, from spammers, botters, and chinese gold farmers... if you actually played the game, you would realize it's quite a problem... Not just a "few bad eggs" And it's not blizzards fault there is so many chinese farmers, they just see diablo 3 as a big cash cow because of it's large player base... just like WoW.... If it wasn't a popular game, they wouldn't even bother with it...

[citation][nom]bluestar2k11[/nom]I think your kinda failing hun.Maybe you should try another method, like, maybe not attacking your customer base of loyal purchasers? I know fraud happens in every aspect of every market, but I've never been told that type of thing while ordering 1500$ in Pc parts from newegg just to be sure I'm actually going to pay, I might find it acceptable for the cost being transferred, but for a 60$ game that seems to not work or punish players more then it benefits them? I'll keep passing on Diablo III.It's too bad really, publishers keep harming their customer base in an attempt, a foolish one at that, to stop a handful of badeggs.I guess it saves me money to put into games for my Vita. Its in need of a library at the moment.[/citation]

This model is sort of messed up…. Compare this to a brick and mortar store. You walk in you buy a game or a refrigerator or whatever, you pay with your credit card and the cashier says to you “thanks, you can pick up your new item in 3 days once our store gets payment from the credit card company.”
That’s just not how any other retail store works. If it was no one would use credit cards. If your company chooses to take credit cards you are opening opportunities to collect sales from a much larger customer base. Unfortunately that larger customer base also includes some risks, but that is a cost of doing business.

Why do media companies (movies, games) get to do things like this that would not be acceptable in any other segment of the retail world?

[citation][nom]kinggremlin[/nom]Is this really that had for you to understand? Why would someone try to buy Diablo 3 with a stolen credit card if they know Blizzard won't give access to the whole game until the card is verified? Even if they do use the card, once it is determined to be stolen, most credit card companies will automatically deactivate the card even before the owner of it is aware it was stolen which prevents any further fraudulant charges. What on earth is wrong with you people claiming this done out of greed? What!? Blizzard doesn't make a damn penny off of doing this. What are they monetarily gaining from this? It's pretty much guaranteed this is costing them money. So Blizzard is spending money and losing potential sales in the process of trying to protect consumers from having their stolen credit card used because they are greedy? I can't comprehend what level of stupidity is necessary to come up with that line of thinking.[/citation]

Calm down sir. Please understand that everyone likes to take a ride in the Hate Bandwagon.

[citation][nom]kinggremlin[/nom]Additionally, it is of no surprise that most of you complaining didn't bother to read the whole article, before going off on your unintelligible rants."While most payments are approved and restrictions are lifted within a day, in some cases it can take up to 72 hours to complete this process."If having to wait up to a day, typically, to play all the way through a game is such a crime againt humanity to some of you people, you really need to get of your parents basement and go outside once in a while to see what real problems there are in this world.[/citation]

As I've said, it's fun to take a ride in the Hate mobile.

Then why did you buy it?

Am I the only person on this site who is not plagued by problems with D3? or is it because I only play 5-10 hours a week that I am not so widely inconvenienced.

I mean I had one outage at launch but seriously enjoying the game. 3 Char's in and one approaching hell difficulty.

Maybe people need to cry a little less. Its FREE to play online! and Blizzard have been working hard to keep it that way.
