Even if there is a Ubisoft-style outage on launch day, Blizzard fans are a mighty forgiving bunch.

Bioware wishes it has fans like them.

[citation][nom]Marfig[/nom]Right. I'm sure if this was some game you didn't like or from some developer or publisher you hated, all of a sudden a 40 second delay would seem like proof enough of how crap they are.If you don't consider a 40 sec delay on a public service login process a bad thing, you are lying to yourself.[/citation]

I beileve he was using sarcasm.

Keep in mind, logins are handled by one server before you're handed off to another that generates your game world. This means that the 40 second delay is because they're launching with an underpowered login server, or at least they anticipate the server is underpowered enough to not handle the initial simultaneous influx of players at midnight.

I think the real question is why we can't have a single player game, offline. D2 had this option. I hate needing a internet connection to play a solo game and you really should too.
The solo game is easily separated from the multiplayer, so there is no real problem with the RMAH. This "connection" is really a copyright protection scam and a tool to gather data on you. If you pay for the game, you should be able to play it.

There's no reason, technical or otherwise, except for the simple fact they wanted it this way. Why? Well, I can only think of some sort of anti-piracy attempt, or perhaps trying to push the very large single-player community into online play. No matter what, I feel it is one of the worst things to happen to the game industry in the past few years. If Activision-Blizzard and a few others approach to single players stick, gamers like me are in for a world of pain.

It's the one reason why I decided to vote with my wallet. Despite Diablo II being one of my most favorite games of all times, I am not going to buy Diablo III. Most likely ever! If they change their policy towards single-player mode, I will certainly revert my decision.

Of course, with so many people buying the game, my "vote with the wallet" counts for absolutely nothing. But t least I will not have to endure a game on my machine that I feel infringes on my consumer rights.

I actually tend to appreciate the fact that they're trying to make a consistent and enjoyable user experience for all. The game will still be there after 40 seconds... or 4 minutes... or 4 days. Relax and enjoy the game.

With my luck Error 37 all the way till I trow my monitor out the window.
There is no way I'm gonna start playing until Friday night. Someone has to work too.

You are gonna miss one hell of a game!!!
I don't see a reason why internet connection is such a big issue. I agree that this might cause some issues if connection is lost but this is to prevent the game to be pirated...
Anyway in few weeks or days game will be cracked and you can patch it so you can play without internet connection...so chill :)

It's not an issue with connection. It's an issue with principles. If I'm playing a game by myself, I don't need "big brother" looking over my shoulder. But, principles seem to be going the way of the DoDo these days, along with "common sense".

[citation][nom]Skeetersalad[/nom]Your telling me that after all these years with WoW, and it's 10 million users connecting all the time they can't manage to make a diablo3 server that cant handle the load?Excuse me while I laugh.[/citation]

10 million WoW users don't log on daily at 12:01am. It's a distributed load with peak hours but not peak minutes.

Still laughing or has the derp caught on yet?

30 million kids will be staring at a "sorry , we are down for maintenance . yadda yadda yadda . some 9 hours long, every 9.5 hours, lol)

Diablo 3 is only hatching on May 15th, it will need to earn its wings and fly, some 30~60 days later.

I read this and immediately though, "Blizzard must have a new way of testing worthiness of players, let the game bash on your avatar for 40 seconds in nightmare mode... if it lives, then you can join the realm." Seems fair...

[citation][nom]Intel_Hydralisk[/nom]Reading might help: " The installer will actually be unlocked at 8:01 a.m. PDT on May 14 so that users can begin to install the game"[/citation]
Hmmmmmmmm
I'd assume the installer checks across the internets for installation_authorization, but it'd be interesting if the installer would work by fore-dated your computer 😉 Maybe disable the network connection first, then try it... It wouldn't allow for much, except allow for the base installation; I think Burning Crusade took around 30 minutes to install - so any lil bit of time shaven off should help 'tap the vein' 😉

The delays and diconnect we experianced in during open beta is why they have instigated the 40 second delay, I have a few suggestion to the following:
Offline players: we didn't miss you in D2 and will not notice you are not there in D3.
PVP QQ: go play something else while we enjoy D3
RMAH QQ: go fly a kite, who cares what you say, I will buy that epic I am missing on my set either with gold or RM.
End

And another thing WoW has Qs when the server is full...

The key point of it is to make people pay for the game, if they want to play it.

Like it or not, online authentication is the one tool that developers have, if the game is developed properly. to limit piracy.

If you want to play D3, you are pretty much going to have to buy it. I don't see this being fixed with a crack or scene release. The game is too dependent on the information the server provides to function without it. Blizzard did this on purpose to protect their revenue.

DIII is not ready to go live plain and simple. Many of you are going to realize this the first week you try to play. How do I know....I was in the beta for almost 3 months. I am glad I did not preorder and I truly hope that I am wrong about this but if I am not Blizzard is going to make millions of people very unhappy.

in before Error 37 MEME.

After the time we had seen it on the open beta, and all the character names I made at least change the Error message, or hell dont show the Error number, just give the message.

Other then that, have fun playing boys

moronic blizz they should launch the damn game on a weekend, with single player, and real global playing with RMAH not that damn crippled version
