[citation][nom]ChaosGS[/nom]Oh and please limit the size of these responses, there's not a chance in hell im reading the one above me its far to long and unsightly.[/citation]
How did you EVER survive high school English class? Read a book, they're a bit longer than most comments on the internet, but a hell of a lot more satisfying. Some of them even have nice big pictures!

I like the idea of polls. Also... admittedly my blog experiences have been non-existent (I don't like the way that word feels in my mouth... "blog" :-\)
I do like discussing things in the news posts. Reading them usually makes me lol.
I might even register instead of using random names/emails if polls/blogs/more interactive news/thoughts about news come into play :p

As mentioned it should help to clean up the discrepancy of "news" vs. "news + views".

Where the news can be posted with a link to any relevant blogging. Thus people who are interested in an opinion summary of a news article can jump to it if there is one.

Could in theory keep things cleaner and more organized. I like that notion.

[citation][nom]zak_mckraken[/nom]I'm in! There's blogs that I would be more tempted to read, like Kevin, Tuan and Jane. Their style of writing appeals more to me (and Jane is sexy! I know, I'm a douche.). I'd probably give the others a shot too but they'll have to be interesting right off the bat for me to visit them regularly.[/citation]
Oh I see what's going on here.

I say don't do it. People come to Tom's for tech news, benchmarks, the forums, and that is pretty much it and all that's really needed. If you want your own personal blogs that's fine but please don't tag them onto this site.

As long as it won't take too much of your time, go for it.

Coz if it's just to burn extra time, I'd rather get more comprehensive benchmarks than opinions.

It would be columns for the news editors as opposed to the reviews or testers. We're agreed on the time thing, as long as it doesn't take up too much time we're all for getting this started on a trial and seeing how it pans out.

[citation][nom]ProDigit80[/nom]what about adding a poll on some topics?I find "the question at the end of every article" just plainly stupid!Noone really cares about the question, but the article, and noone cares about the answer neither.I understand toms need to be funded, and gets a lot through advertising.Ads only bring up when people are visiting them or at least seeing them.So let's try people to reply to topics so pages will be loaded at least twice (once before the post, and once after the post). The questions at the end of the topic really disgust me.I mean, the day you can send an author that will either reply the answered question, or write us an article what you did with the feedback gained, (EG:went to MS,and gave them feedback; helped firefox to become more userfriendly through the comments posted on toms, etc...) I will start answering those ridiculous questions.Often those questions makes me NOT answer to the topic! It should be more than obvious users should be able to comment and make their own conclusions out of the article and write about them, not an artificial "yes we agree", or "I'll tell you what you asked even if noone ever will read the reply I write, and in no way is constructive in society".I am very happy though that my voice about Win Vista was heard here, and many people started realizing that Vista is not what it promised to be (with it's speed and response issues). As well as power saving issues, making users more power efficient aware (choosing the right pc).I'm sure a lot of manufacturers like Asus take a peek here from time to time in their R&D phases of new products.(despite being Japs)Toms is a great place to let a voice be heard, and has helped push the market a lot, making users aware of good buys, and thus efficiently raising the market quality of producs through user votes and information.A lot of articles are crappy indeed. Some not even looking professional and degrading the integrity of toms (like those porn articles).[/citation]

Hey there,

I'm not sure if this was directed at Tuan's Question of the Day or my style of asking questions in each post. Tuan has already responded but here's my two cents:

For one, I think you're wrong to suggest no one cares. Like I said, the community aspect is a big deal for us. The forums are a place where you guys hang out, talk tech and help each other with hardware/home-builds/consumer electronics problems or questions. I think adding an outlet for you guys to express your opinion on current events is a great step.

The volume of comments we get on some stories is astounding and this is, almost 100% of the time, directly proportional to how much we ourselves get involved. Sure, I ask "what do you think?" in some way or another at the end of my articles, but I also leave my own opinion and actively take part in the comments. Whether it's agreeing/disagreeing or conceding that I am wrong, many readers appreciate that we take the time away from providing the content to take part in/keep discussions going and mildy interesting (as opposed to "FIRST" "fAkE!" and "OMG FIRRRRST")

As for the question of the day ... I'll try to keep it short because Tuan has already answered this but I have to say, I have never disagreed more with a reader in all my time here at Tom's. As Tuan said, hundreds of people care enough to comment and whether or not the QOTD pieces or my own endeavor to bring the readers closer to the content rub you up the wrong way, plenty of people are interested in honest to goodness discussions on the topics posed.

If you don't care, don't respond. Let other people carry the discussion the way they want to. We know by looking at our own numbers that encouraging reader discussion garners more of a response in the comments (simply SHOCKING) and does not drive all of you away. You may not like it and I'm positive there are plenty who don't, but the majority of people seem to like it or at least remain open to it.

All of that said, we definitely appreciate the fact that you've taken the time to comment. This post was as much to check back with you guys to see how you like what we're doing here as it was asking if you'd like to see us do blogs. Every single comment will be (and has been thus far) read by all of the staff editors and criticisms remind us to keep things in check.

Is mise le meas/with respect,

Hmmmm, Personally,I think it is a good idea, would allow for some interaction between the readers and the staff of Tom's,and, who knows we both might get some interesting ideas, where technology is concerned you can never have enough info...
Given that you folks have your faces in the tech world all day as opposed to me having my face in just one computer all day, since my 486/50...:)

[citation][nom]Marcus Yam[/nom]Oh I see what's going on here.[/citation]

Oh and Marcus... Marcus is great too! (please don't ban me)

Seriously though, I think the choice is entirely up to you guys. You're nice to ask around for opinions, but it's your site and yours to manage. However, you'll have to live with the consequences!

My first feeling is that if it's really separated from the "hard news", with only a link in the menu or a column on the main page, people who don't care won't be bothered by it. It has to have enough visibility so the ones who are indeed interested may access it easily. Else, it might become unread and you'll be wasting a lot of your time. On the topic of time, it should, of course, not distract you from the "real" news, as others have mentionned.

With all that in mind... go for it! :)

Honestly nothing is free. Time etc. I liked the QOTD section at first, but then as threads got long, I ran out of time to read all that. Now it's a question of do I read about 2.5" hard drive backplanes or misc ramblings on Win7. It's the same reason I don't visit TomsGuide much. Also you have to make space for it on the already busy front page. I miss second take though.

Bottom line, I think it all comes down to, if you have something interesting to say then post it and call it a blog if you want. Otherwise, don't feel obligated to tell us about how often you eat ham sandwiches etc.

Polls? Sure, but often times people want to be heard. People are entitled to their opinions and the comments are for just that.

Why are you assuming that we don't do anything with those questions? We give feedback to companies all the time.[/citation]
Can you share some of the feedback you give to companies?

I find the QOTD topics interesting to read at times, but im also interested in the total responses from readers, but I dont have the time wade through all the responses and try to add things up. So something to the effect of this:
QOTD: Do you use widget X?
275 people responded
150 said yes.
95 said no.

As for the last several QOTDs - what was the final results of "the best games of all time" ?
same for the RAM in your PC or the first computer we used.

I'd be interested in seeing blogs, though it would be nice to not have blogs only devoted to "opinion" pieces. After all, I visit Tom's Hardware to learn tech and keep up-to-date on tech news, not read the senseless flaming that many opinion-based discussions degenerate into.

I believe the question was, what is YOUR favorite game of all time, not what is the best game of all time. It isn't a grand poll--besides, how many choices would you have the poll be to be enough of a selection to cover every PC game out there?

JMcEntegart, you seem a more reasonable person to respond to, so here goes:

Well,to hear something is being done with the information definitely is a good thing!
Almost makes me want to answer more topics, because like you say, than the value of responds is there!
I still am not fond of asking a question just to keep a forum going here.

And you got to admit that it raises some $$$ for toms because the ads are seen.

As to tuannguyen: Don't you do the same saying "you're completely bias as you think the QOTDs are stupid"... Who says that? It may be your own interpretation. I have placed some mighty good arguments and market ideas on this site, unlike the "I'm first" poster (which I may have done once I have to admit), and the fanboy/'yes-nodder' there's a lot of feedback I gave that in the end became a reality, but perhaps my judgement about Toms was wrong that this site gives little about userfeedback and perhaps does little with it.

Apart from here,I am active on a bunchload of forums (you can all find them under the name ProDigit) and am in contact with some companies.
A lot of my ideas have shaped the market for what it is today; but I quit inputting my data where it's not heeded.

A number of companies ended up making products I asked them to make, (meaning the starting idea came from me,while they worked out the details), but I never get any credit for them.
If I'm lucky one or two companies have send a 'thank you for the idea' mail, some send a "This is an automated mail; thank you for your submission" response;but apart from that I received nothing.

So the least I hope to see is that something is done with the info, and not let this reply forum be like a desert, where ideas just die out in time...

Thank you again for making me known about this.
I replied to you on an old topic, since I want to prevent other users seeing/replying to this, but I do hope you'll read it.
