I have a K7T266 Pro 2 with an Athlon XP1600+ chip. If I upgrade to a new
board such as a MSI KT6 Delta-FISR, Athlon XP2800+ and appropriate memory,
what chance is there that the system will work without a major windows
re-installation ? I'm hoping that on the basis that both boards are VIA
chipsets that the drivers wil be close enough or the same to allwo the
system to boot up OK.

Thoughts... ?

usually not...upgrading the board is the biggest change you can make..even
if it is VIA chipset...it may boot up fine and seem to work great but in
order to maximize your performance a ground up install is best.

I upgraded from a Soyo VIA KT133 to a MSI nForce2 K7N2-L just by running
the repair setup from the XP CD. Kept all of my old settings.
You might be lucky and get straight into Windows but running a repair
from the CD is no sweat, either way its not as bad as you might think if
you do it carefully.
