So........all of my precious bookmarks for various Tom's topics around here no longer work. This must NOT just be me, right?

You guys have to be kidding.......after my thousands of posts here, cataloguing information, helping provided resources, links, etc......IT'S ALL GONE?!?! None of my links here work anymore......all the stuff I've bookmarked here.....the links are no longer valid!!!!!!!! :fou: :fou:

Updating the interface....fine. Making things apparently more pretty.....fine. Making things more cumbersome and not very intuitive.........even fine. But making CONTENT no longer reside in the same spot, so tens of thousands of links around here no longer work for people in this community?

YOU MUST BE JOKING.

And I consider myself one of the most patient people here at Tom's. This is unacceptable. I've spent countless hours here, I am NOT spending more trying to find everything and recreate the links to all the bookmarks that no longer exist. And you want to know the shameful part??? We voluntarily pass along this information to people who visit these forums, promoting this site on YOUR behalf, we have no vested interest in this, no money procured.....nothing except our time and enthusiasm. And this is what happens.

I'm utterly speechless. Me. That's saying something.

I think I'm gonna leave for good. After all this time I've invested here, it's flushed down the toilet. Nice to know we're all appreciated.....

:pfff:

BTW, Comptia: I see you're a Mod here now. I always respected your straightforwardness, candor, and honesty here. And I think you've seen that I've been the same around here during my tenure at THG. So I would put this whole issue directly to you: Can you honestly say those of us that have help made these forums successful are getting a fair deal here? Seriously. This is a travesty. I won't even go into the interface problems here. But mucking with content??? I'm..........wow. I don't know what to say.

Why don't you just chill out and wait?

In a few posts they've addressed the fact that they are doing data conversion. They might be able to re-trace posts back to their old URLs...

It's the very first day.. just chill out a bit.

The old URLs should be redirected to the new one, and if this is not the case, then there's a bug somewhere in the redirection process.

An example? I have tons. It's not difficult....just put in any link to old THG posts. They don't work.

And Phrozt....no offense intended here........but I'm not some newbie to these forums, I've been around for quite awhile and made thousands of posts. I fully understand that new systems take time to implement. Fine. That's not the issue. Such bugs......that's just bad IT management. That's fact, not conjecture. But it's not even that. It's not even the poorly-laid-out, counter-intuitive interface. It's not the weird bugs that are obvious and werent' caught in testing. It's not the lack of information at my fingertips that are no longer there. And it's not the cumbersome approach to the forums. It's the lack of respect that has been shown. For some of us old farts here that have spent countless hours helping this place become what it is, this "new future" shows how much this place has seemingly regressed. It is a shadow of its former self. The new owners here obviously have very strong ideas of what they want to see happen here, and we're along for the ride. Fine, it's their money. But to alienate its own community and show such an utter lack of respect for the information that WE (including you too!) helped accumulate.....it's shameful really.

Change is difficult. I agree. Fine. But that's missing the point. It's partly about the technical ineptitude with which this has been instituted, but more importantly the attitude with which it connotates. Do you really think the new owners will be so different with all the other changes coming here too?

So it was poorly implemented.. all I'm saying is stay around for awhile till the dust settles and see how things are.

It's the first day... don't get all in a huff and leave just because they screwed something up. It's obvious by the attention that's been given to these forums that they are trying to work everything out..

Do you seriously think they did this change just to piss you off??

LOL. Yes. I woke up, saw the new forums and thought "Why did Tom's Hardware single me out for punishment on this fine day?". LMAO.

Naw......all the chat here will be about the packaging, not the content. Better to come back far later after the dust settles and see if THG has actually retained some of its content and flair, or if it went down the tube like the forum interface.

Thank you for your concern though 😉

I just stand up for them because I'm someone who's made "improvements" that everyone hates but "needed" to be implemented. I agree that the way they dropped this was very unprofessional.. but it probably still needed to be done, and I'm sure everything will be alright.

When there are big changes like this, they are almost ALWAYS met with a lot of hostility.. but if you look a month later... no one is even talking about them because things work out and everything is alright. All I'm saying is curb your hostility for a moment... let them eff up and fix it... and then see how things are.

Problem noted. We're working on it. Strange thing is that it's not happening to all links. If you could provide a sample, it might speed things up.

ARGH......@#$^^#@# I went to refresh and lost EVERYTHING I WAS TYPING IN THIS MESSAGE. @#$%#@@#

POS.

This is taking waaaaay too much of my time........

Here are a few links that have been trashed. There are many more but I'm not gonna spend the time, FAR TOO TIME CONSUMING. You guys are getting paid for this and I'm not, so......good luck to ya.

http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=1686474#1686474 (and WHY ON EARTH DID THIS GET LOCKED???? Are you KIDDING me? This was one of those most popular Gigabyte/Overclocking threads in these frickin forums. Which Mod on a power trip locked it? No, wait.....lemme guess.....I probably can figure it out.....he's been rather "active" of late. @#$%^@%#)

Just one question: After all this and the dust settles, will we find it worth it? Sorry, that's rhetorical....of course you'll answer "yes". How about this then: Can this place get more Mods like Comptia who is from the trenches and won't do STUPID things like lock popular and useful threads? Incorrigible........

skyguy I totally agree, what about all the great stickys like PSU 101 and all the help for those that are new to computing or these forums. This whole thing was very poorly executed. There have been may threads about the demise of THG and I see the forums are following suit.
