Boot Problems

I have a very old Windows ME computer from HP, model # XL759.

It had a copy of Windows ME (obviously) installed on the hard drive. I took the hard drive out of it, put it in the computer I use, formatted it, and installed Windows Server 2003. The operating system booted fine on my computer.

But, whenever I tried to boot it on the WinME computer, the computer wouldn't even get past the "HP Invent" screen. I may also add that it has been doing this long before I even touched the hard drive. I also cannot even get to the BIOS screen. I presumed something is wrong with the motherboard or RAM, or something related to the motherboard.

So, my question is, does anyone have any knowledgeable idea on why the computer is refusing to boot? No matter what I do, it will nots do anything, and just stick on the "HP Invent" screen.

Thanks in advance.

You could try updating your BIOS, as well as checking all the cables and connections inside the case (hard disk wires, making sure all devices are in their sockets).

Come to think of it does this HP even meat the system requierments needed to run that OS?

Yes it does.

Also, I installed the operating system using my computer that i use, mainly because of the boot problem with the WinME one. So, I reformatted the drive, again, put it in my other Win98 computer, installed the OS, and everything works fine on it. So something is definately wrong with the WinME computer.

Also, just to clarify something, the WinME computer freezes at startup even if there is no hard disk attached... so, i don't know...

ok im confused on your post. so im just gonna say, you have to install the OS using the ME computer. you cant install the operating system on a different comp and then just throw the harddrive back in the old comp.

I know that. But my problem is, the WinME computer will not do anything. It freezes at the "HP Invent" screen, and I cannot boot the OS, go to the BIOS, or even boot from a CD. It's just frozen.

i'm actually not investing anything on this computer. If I found out that the RAM is bad, i'll just get some new sticks from my friend for free. If it still doesn't work, and the motherboard is having problems or whatever, I'll just give it away, lol, let someone else have the problem of trying to fix it.

Speaking of RAM, has anyone ever gotten RAM timings down to 0-0-0-0. if its even possible? lol. And what abut the CAS latency, is it possible to go down to 1 or 0?
