I've been trying to get this to work all day long. I have an ASUS B53S and I just got a new LG29UM68 Monitor, but both HDMI and DP do not work. What I mean is, the monitor just stays black and says No Signal, even with all the settings I tried on the laptop.
I'll spell out the things I've learned in the process.
Using ASUS laptop, I get No Signal on the TV when connecting to a Samsung TV via HDMI.
Using ASUS laptop, I get No Signal on the Monitor connecting to the LG Monitor via HDMI.
Using ASUS laptop, I get No Signal on the Monitor connecting to the LG Monitor via DP.
Two separate HDMI cables were used, ASUS has no luck.
Tried both HDMI inputs on monitor, and switched between them, tried lots of little switches/restarts/unplug one/plug in different order, etc. No luck.
An older HP laptop connects via HDMI and the LG monitor instantly shows my cloned desktop the way HDMI is supposed to go by default.
Uninstalling and reinstalling VGA Adapter, Intel HD 3000 Driver, and AMD drivers in various orders with tons of reboots has had no effect on the ASUS laptop.
This is my display adapter setup in Device Manager: http://prntscr.com/de46gh
Entering BIOS with F2 at reboot showed no options related to multiple displays.
Using connect to projector (windows key + P) allows my mouse to go off the screen in extended mode, and shows this on screen resolution settings: http://prntscr.com/de46yn. I'm not sure if it should say VGA but that's what it says.
Using a very old Dell Desktop monitor, connecting with VGA works instantly on the ASUS. So again, HDMI + DP simply refuse, but VGA works fine. So I don't know if this eliminates the graphics card being problematic or not, but I mentioned it just in case.
I tried installing the driver that came with the LG Monitor (this was unnecessary for the HP laptop to work fine) and that didn't help.
As a side note, I also can't get the monitor to stop going into its energy saving mode every 10-15 seconds after there's no signal, even though I modified the settings. I don't want to blame the monitor for every issue I'm having because the old laptop worked fine with it, but I suppose that's a possibility. My friend says it is because there is no source so the monitor just shuts down, even though the HDMI is plugged in. So when I plug in my laptop, the monitor wakes up, then says No Signal, and goes back to sleep.
I am really pulling my hair out over this.. can anyone guide me to a solution to extend my display from the ASUS to the monitor either through HDMI or DP? I thought that the HDMI port might be dead on the ASUS but I've rarely used it, and it's hard to believe that the DP port would also be dead with no use, while the rest of the laptop is perfectly fine. I have never used the DP before, so I suppose it's possible both the ports are loose or malfunctioning, but the fact that I get the right display on the screen resolution page tells me the ports could be fine, and it's something else on the laptop not sending a signal to the monitor/TV.
