Both monitors work fine but can't get my pc to detect the second one.

I've recently bought another monitor for my PC. I've connected both of the monitors with a VGA splitter so both the cables are pretty much in one port just connected via a splitter. My PC isn't giving me any option to extend anything it's only picking up that there's one monitor. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Solution
Unfortunately, this is what a splitter does. The same data is sent to both displays.

If you want different content on each display, you need to connect them directly to the motherboard or GPU. If you don't have two VGA ports, you might be able to use a DVI-I to VGA converter, but I'd hope every modern display would support DVI, DP, or HDMI.

Basically, I've got the splitter connected to a DVI to VGA adapter and then to a VGA splitter, then to two VGA cables. It's all connected to my GPU which is a GTX 960 Strix. So, you think it's the fact that they're connected through the VGA splitter? The two monitors are the same and they only have VGA ports. What would be a good solution?
