Depends on the game actually. Recent Tomb Raider really favor CPU, especially AMD CPU

Anything short of a decently clocked i5 will bottleneck 970/390+ for 1080p maxed for aaa games. This is quite a generic statement but its my experience on the games I play at 1080 and the fact ive seen even the i5 hold the gpu back a few times on some games.
