JAYDEEJOHN :
I see fps over 60, whats the point here again?
We are comparing the raw power of each CPU for gaming. JennyH was essentially saying that the PII is a better gaming CPU than the i7 920 even at the same clock speeds.
My point is that the PII is a better gaming CPU at stock due to higher clock speeds, but the i7 will win when it's clocked to the PII speeds.
We are not talking about the best value-CPU or price-for-performance.
jennyh :
And what about the non overclocked 940 in the same chart beating the non overclocked i7 by 20fps in assassins creed, or 10fps in cod4?
And where would that be?
Comparing i7 920 to PIIx4 940.

All the evidence I've seen points to the fact that the i7 is better than the PhenomII in terms of gaming fps when both are clocked at the same speed.

Jaydee I've always been willing to call it a draw, but the intel fanboys just wont accept the i7 can lose to Phenom II in anything.
What I'm not willing to accept is them claiming a 'win' here. The i7 is an inferior gaming chip - not by much - but it's worse not better. You can make a case for the i7 on a lot of different areas, but in gaming it's just plain bad value compared to the Phenom II, i5 and even the Q9000's.
You haven't produced any evidence that shows the the PII is better than the i7 at the same clock speed. You've just shown me links with GPU bottlenecks, or links comparing a heavily OCed 4.2GHz PhenomII against a stock i7 920.
You don't have any evidence whatsoever, whereas I've already produced numerous benchmarks that show the i7 920 is superior when clocked at the same speeds as the PII. You call me an Intel fanboy? Sorry JennyH, but you sound like an AMD fanboy who can't accept the facts.
The PhenomII was competition for the Core2Quad, not the i5/i7. The i5/i7 clobbers the PII in everything when clocked at the same speed, while also being more expensive. These are the simple facts.
