Question Bowers & Wilkins Formation bar audio volume control

We have a Sony Bravia A80CJ and a B&W Formation bar, sub & rears. At first the Formation bar could receive our AppleTV remote volume adjustments, but that stopped working, tried factory reset several times. We had so many problems with this Formation bar, had to get in warranty service at $200 shipping twice. It’s out of warranty now. The Bravia optical output volume doesn’t vary and so we can’t control the volume except through the B&W app, which is super inconvenient. Are there any solutions for us, include additional Hardware to control the volume of the optical?

The Bowers & Wilkins Formation bar does not have an HDMI input. The Sony Bravia does not have an HD MI output. How would this relate to my problem?
