Question Brand new hdd power on count

Meaning that you have powered the new HDD for only 1 hour but the HDD is reporting 23 hours of being powered on?

Where are you getting the power on hours?

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

New HDD: make, model, capacity, how full?

Where purchased?

Manufacturers do test drive for Power On and Spin Up before releasing the HDDs in the wild but 23 times is more than one would expect.

Start/Stop Count is 23 too. Very unlikely but maybe CrystalDiskInfo counted Start/Stop as Power Cycle Count too? Maybe a glitch or bug?

What is the OS (Windows?) power settings re turning hard drives off? If the power settings is set to turn drive off after X minutes and then the drive turns back on upon access that counts towards a Start/Stop Count. Not a Power Cycle Count though.

I'd suggest you keep a record and see if the Power Cycle Count increases beyond what it should.

After thought: one link that I found mentioned that such a discrepancy could be caused by a bad power connection.

However, if so, I would expect other problems as well.

Take a look in Reliability History/Monitor for error codes, warnings, or informational events.

Especially any that involve drive activities.

you were right btw it turns the hdd off if its not used for 10 minutes can this be it ?

Was that 1 hour used by you, or was it like that when getting the drive?

It could be the Windows setting, but it can only theoretically turn off 6 times in one hour, that also assuming you wake the drive exactly 10 minutes later. Hm..

i used around 30 40 minutes before checking it so mostly me i think. i dont want to deal with returning it and getting back a new one if it looks like it has no problems. it has no bad sectors smart looks fine i think. so i prob should be fine or do you think its worth to deal with returning and getting back a new one ?
