Stone Micro-PC, i5-6400 with fully updated Win10

Hi all.

I cannot print from my PC to this printer any more. It shows up as the 'default printer' with a bright green 'tick' over it. It also shows as 'online'' and 'ready' - connected via USB

Its scanner works to the PC as normal, and it also works perfectly as a stand-alone copier.

If I open the 'printer queue' window to observe what goes on, I find:

Printing from a Word doc - clicking on print shows the Status as 'Spooling' for a fraction of a second followed by 'printing' for a ditto. Then it goes blank, but nothing actually prints.

Printing by right-clicking on a web page and selecting 'print' has the 'preview' appearing after a few seconds of thought (scrolling dots...), and then the preview appears as normal. Then on 'print' the status window shows the status as 'scrolling' for a couple of seconds - with the file size typically showing '47.9MB of 51.2MB' - followed by the status changing to 'deleting' for a second. The file shown in the queue then clears.

Printing a photo has the status going from 'scrolling' to 'printing' and then disappearing in the space of a second.

Ie - it all appears to go through the right motions (tho' not sure about 'deleting' showing when trying to print a web page?) but nothing actually prints, and the Brother's display doesn't change.

What I've tried: I've reinstalled the whole Brother driver and utility suite - Control Centre 3 - and tried different USB ports (which work fine with other devices). Following a similarish thread on here, I also tried SFC scannow, but this returned 'no issues'.

Any thoughts folks? Thanks :)

I'll try that, popatim - thank you.

Meanwhile, I've managed to plug the printer into another PC - and it went 'dink, de-duh-dink' when I plugged it into the USB - and it printed from that PC. Replugged it back in to the main PC - with no 'd,d-d-d' - and now't - it won't print.

I'm thinking it might be a USB communication issue (even tho' it'll 'scan' from the printer ok)?

Why doesn't my PC go 'd, d-d-d' when I plug summat into its USB?

Anyhoo, will try your clear-spool idea.

Have you tried clearing the spool?
Stop the print spooler service, delete everything in the print spooler (c:\windows\system32\spool\printers), restart the spooler service.

I deleted all the files in spool/printers, but wasn't sure what 'restart the spooler service' meant, but closed system32 and tried a print. Now't :-(

To stop the print spooler service you would open the "services" app. (Click the start button, type in the word: services, click on the app when it shows up in the list) Scroll down and right click on Print Spooler and select Stop.

Leave services open.

Clear the Spool printer folder

Back in Services, right click on Print Spooler and select Start.

Thanks pop. I stopped the Print Spooler as per your instructions, went to Spool folder - which was empty (I guess from when I deleted it last time) and restarted Print Spooler.

Hasn't worked, I'm afraid.

I've got the same problem. I have a Brother DCP-J315W on Windows 10. It has been working fine for years but from about 2 weeks ago it stopped printing. Everything seems fine and the scan from PC works but just not print. I've removed the printer from device manager and reinstalled all drivers etc but no good. Also tried USB and Wifi connections.
The strange thing is the printer works from a different PC (also Windows 10). I think it might be caused by a recent Windows update that only affects certain hardware especially as other people have the same problem.

Interesting, jzza.

Lots in common there. Like you, I believe I can say that (1) the printer itself is definitely fully functioning, (2) the PC's USB ports are definitely functioning, (3) the visible print process as far as the PC is concerned ('status' window, queueing, etc) appears normal.

Time to try Brother themselves, I guess.

There is something wrong with your windows installation if the printer works on a different PC

Yes there has to be. I think it's probably due to a windows update because the printer has been working for years and it seems strange that this is happening to other people just recently and with the same printer or manufacturer.

When I try to print there is an error entry in the Windows event viewer with a fault caused by printisolationhost.exe with exception code 0005.

Thanks Mandark.

My symptoms are different to jzza's - when I open the 'printer queue' window to observe the printing status, when I print a Word doc, for example, it appears to be behaving normally - it shows 'status' as 'spooling', it counts the pages, and then that item in the queue disappears. It's just that nothing actually prints, and the printer doesn't respond in any way at all. Printing a web page is slightly different - on printing, the status shows as 'spooling' and this changes to 'deleting' after a couple of seconds, and it all clears again. I've just tried this with Control Centre 3 uninstalled, so just the basic 'windows' printer driver running - makes no difference.

What would you suggest as a cure to the bad win install?!

Cheers.

Tried - once again - to reinstall the driver/CC3. This time used Brother's own 'uninstall' utility to remove the old version (previously I just used Windows' uninstall app).

Lord - no difference. It all seems to be working as it should - there are no errors or anything - but it just doesn't print. Everything else works fine - the PC shows the printer's ink levels, it scans as it should - everything. It just won't print...

Any thoughts on how to approach a cure, Mandark, if it's a Windows issue?

Thanks.

Ooookkkaaaaay, this mentions Win10 versions 1902 and 1909 - I seemingly have 2004.

How do I download this -7512 update?

Or am I as well to leave it for an automatic update, since it seems very likely that this is, indeed, the cause?

Cheers.

2. Click on the correct link below depending on which version of Windows 10 you are using.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4567512/windows-10-update-kb4567512
NOTE: if your version of Windows is not listed please keep checking the Microsoft website for updates.

3.Navigate towards the bottom of the page and select the option for Microsoft Update Catalog.

4. Click on Download on the required update depending on which version of system you have. E.G. if you are using 64 bit / x64 processor select the update for x64 based systems.

5. A pop up should appear, click on the link and the file should start to download in the bottom left corner. Once complete double click on the file and the update should start to install.

Kind regards,
Mohammad
