This helped one guy with a HP Pavilion of the same series as yours who had black screen same as you: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1904869/disable-ulps-amd-crossfire-setups.html

I updated my folks HP Pavilion dv7-6199us entertainment laptop from Windows 7 to 10, and upon boot-up between the Windows logo splash screen and the login screen, there is a 60-90 second period of time where the screen is blank. No mouse cursor, no logos or updating notice.
I noticed that the system has two video drivers, a Radeon one and an Intel HD driver. I'm wondering if it has to do with some type of conflict.

sound familiar??

your dual card is probably counted as a sort of crossfire.
=))This is amazing......

well, thats annoying. they all DX errors so it looks like that combined driver i said to get for the graphics isn't much good. At least I know what caused them...

looking at details of the driver, it was updated on 1st March this year but was actually released 5 years ago... all of them are 5 years old. I feel like I was lied to.

So, the latest driver for AMD can be found here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download You can choose to let web site scan pc and give you a driver.

I cannot locate 64bit Win 7 drivers for graphics based on your Intel chip

okay. i had a look on AMD site,

AMD Radeon™ R5 235X, Radeon™ R5 235, Radeon™ R5 230, Radeon™ R5 220, Radeon™ HD 8470, Radeon™ HD 8350, Radeon™ HD 8000 (D/G variants), Radeon™ HD 7000 Series (HD 7600 and below), Radeon™ HD 6000 Series, and Radeon™ HD 5000 Series Graphics products have been moved to a legacy support model and no additional driver releases are planned.

But all is not lost.

AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition Beta Driver
Applicable Products:
AMD Radeon™ R5 235X, Radeon™ R5 235, Radeon R5™ 230, Radeon™ R5 220 Series Graphics
AMD Radeon™ HD 8470, Radeon™ HD 8350, Radeon™ HD 8000 (D/G variants) Series Graphics
AMD Radeon™ HD 7000 – HD 7600 (including A/D/G/M variants) Series Graphics
AMD Radeon™ HD 6000 (including A/D/G/M variants) Series Graphics

go to bottom of this page: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy3&os=Windows%207%20-%2064

And download the Radeon Software Crimson Edition Beta

unlike last drivers that said they were 1 March, I believe these ones are as Crimson drivers only new

Your patience is amazing... I am going mad cause each answer I give doesn't work for you.

are you on SP1 of Win 7

When installing the AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta Driver for non GCN products for the Windows® operating system, the user must be logged on as Administrator, or have Administrator rights to complete the installation of the AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta Driver for non GCN products.

The AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta Driver for non GCN products requires Windows 7 Service Pack 1 to be installed.

here is a new link to them: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Radeon-Software-Crimson-Edition-16.2.1-for-Non-GCN-Products-Release-Notes.aspx

you have Windows version: Windows 7 , 6.1, build: 7600
you must update to windows 7 service pack 1 or your graphics subsystem will bugcheck if you use any new (post 2011) graphics driver.

(there are many other known bugs in build 7600 so don't look at bugchecks until you have service pack 1 installed)

I would also make sure your BIOS is up to date to avoid various bugs.

Thank you, I couldn't work out why drivers weren't working. Its only been a year since i stopped using 7 and it already feels forever. I will leave this with you, I should have ignored it to start with, I just like helping people :)

I instaled Windows 7 Home Premium OA that came with the laptop and after that i upgraded to windows 10 Home Edition , it just instaled all my drivers automaticaly from USB 3.0 to Graphics Driver , let's see if this will solve the problem !

Thank you Colif for your amazing patience and for all the help that you provided ! I owe you big time !

I have used all my luck up trying to fix it on 7, one advantage to 10 is it grabs all your drivers for you at install, and there will only ever be max of 2 updates after the reinstall (though in 5 years that one cumulative update file will be pretty big). Your pc should be fine on 10, my mum uses a 6 year old dell that was pretty much extinct when it was released yet seems to work ok on Win 10, She has an even older ATI card than you do... i know its drivers are long gone.

Since you on win 10 now, download this for next time you need to reinstall again: Win 10 media creation tool, it lets you make your own install disc. Fresh install using that next time and when it asks for your serial key, provided its activated now, you just click "I don't have a key" and Win 10 will activate itself on install. One less thing you need to do.

I surrender...

okay, at least win 10 problems i mostly know...

in my last post i linked to media creation tool. On another pc, make a bootable usb or dvd (your choice)
just need it as a boot disc
change the bios so it boots off it first, hdd second
boot up and on screen after language choices, select repair this pc, NOT INSTALL
select troubleshoot
select advanced
select start up repair - this will scan pc and hopefully fix start up for you - it will ask for logon details

try that... i think problem is your video card drivers (as usual, again) but I wonder what Win 10 installed for you...

Part of problem could be you using an upgrade. you would be better clean installing win 10 as then there are no old drivers on pc. it would have recorded pc details when you upgraded so you don't need serial number now.

Since you only just installed it, nothing really lost. follow this:http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

I am going now anyway... late enough for me.

it seems the black screen at start up thing may not be your graphics card, its something that affects both Nvidia and AMD

What helped some people who had the "reboot and it works fine" thing is this: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-fast-startup-turn-off-windows-10-a.html

win 10 is different in many ways to win 7 but one is how it turns on/off. Turning off a win 10 pc actually puts it into a hybred sleep mode, the only time a win 10 pc turns off like a win 7 pc is during a restart. What the link I gave you does is turn that feature off so your pc will turn off when you select shutdown in windows.

its also possible the black screen you get is the logon screen, one way to avoid that is to auto logon - see here: http://www.cnet.com/au/how-to/automatically-log-in-to-your-windows-10-pc/

I checked the HP web site for win 10 drivers and it says they all come through Windows update now

and then there is this: https://community.amd.com/thread/194259

I managed to install both of the graphics card succesfuly , did everything u suggested but the black screen still there , i find it weird because it boots , than black screen for 2-3minutes and than windows boots again succesfuly....
