I bought 2 ram kingston HyperX Impact Sodimm 2666hz 8gb, after installing it.. I begun having random BSOD and also guaranteed BSOD when playing fallout 4 ( as my last post i thought it all because of fallout 4lol but its not, i bsod even idle but rarely) soo i then have the guts to test it through Memtest86 and yup no ERROR tested all 2 new ram individually no error) I tried using it individually. I played games and no error. Both new ram tested individually and i wont get BSOD, but when i use 2 ram (dual channel?) i get BSOD

i dont know what to do, any1 can help? I tried using the old 2 ram and i dont get any bsod. I also tried memtest HCI and no error.

I tried going to XMP but all of the profiles has the same values, i tried all those profile but still get bsod.

My laptop is GL63 8SD
, core I5,
GTX 1660 Ti

Got the proper bios and chipset driver?

I checked all of my drivers and it says its all up to date, and about the bios mine is dated 05/18/2020. I was planning to update or check if theres an update but i dont know how to search it?

My Motherboard is Micro-Star International/model: MS-16P7

And my bios is American Megratends Inc./Version: E16P7IMS.113

Looks like your newer than what msi offers.
How did you check the drivers....what told you it's all up to date?
Were these sticks of ram a kit of 2 or 2 separate sticks?

hhmm.. i see .. thought MSI is giving me outdated bios in thier website. As i remember.. I let an computer technician to look into my laptop cuz i was having problem with it before and he said he just updated my system? maybe it was the bios? i dont know how he did it or where did he get that file tho.

I check the drivers by going into device manager and manually trying updating the drivers and it says all ready up to date

hhmm i use a online shopping plaatform and in the store where i bought it.. it doesnt says "kit of 2" i just put 2 in the quantity. Will it differ? i mean.. right now im using the other 8gb ram and im not having any trouble, last day i was using the other 1 and still no issue. Is it really the ram problem?

If you bought 2 separate sticks of ram there could be just enough difference between them that they won't play nice together.

If you can return them do that and then shop for 2x kit.

Hello just an update.. I thought dual channeling using the 2 new ram is only causing me bsod, soo i tried using them individually, playing games for hours and yup i finally get bsod.. soo I thought huh! soo this one is the defective, soo i tried the other one, playing games ,stressing it and I got bsod after hours of playing games ( fallout 4 xD) sooo is it really the 2 ram is defective? or theres sometinh wrong with my laptop? Right now, im going to try using the 2 old 4gb ram to try if i also get bsod with it.

and also, can a game cause bsod?

Never say never.

All you can do is keep testing and try to make some sense out of things.

In your spare time consider giving the laptop innards a good cleaning.
Heat can cause some wacky stuff.

the max temp i got is around 83c in the most heaviest load i think temp is not the problem.

Maybe soon if i get an extra money ill try to buy a 16gb ram ( why only 1x16gb? cuz if get bsod again i can narrow it down to 1 ram issue or 1 laptop issue vs 2x8gb =2 ram vs 1 laptop issue and if it doest bsod then i could just buy another 16gb ram or leave it as 1x16gb single channel for it is already better than 2x4gb ram, am i right? )

and also my new ram rated as Cl15 @ 2666mhz and my old ones rated maybe 19CL @ 2666gz jedec#10 will that matter? is there any possibility that my laptop cant handle that timing?

btw thanks for the reply i really have a lot of questions with my current problem and i appreciate your time in replying.

2666C15 is a XMP timing and 2666C19 a JEDEC timing. Probably the laptop only supports JEDEC like most laptops do. You have to add a stick with JEDEC 2666C19.

Hi, Can I manually change my Ram CAS Latency/RAS TO CAS/ RAS etc. into my old ram values? and is it safe? Been memtesting my ram.. still no error and bsod still happening and now my HDD fail, my head hurts thinking of buying HDD while still having a problem with my ram

UPDATE: I got a replace ram from the seller, still get BSOD and the replacement ram also pass all memtest. Fortunately I found a thread talking about fast boot disabling.. Soo i did disable it and untill now, NO BSOD even in playing Fallout 4 which before 100% gives me bsod. Hope this update will help some1.
