[SOLVED] budget cpu for roblox/Minecraft

Solution
Intel i3-10100F is a quite inexpensive alternative, b560 motherboard, particularly since you have a decent GPU. That is a quad core with hyperthreading vs the only quad core of the Ryzen 3 1200 and 1300X. Pair it up with a DDR4 2666 2x4GB or 2x8GB kit and it is roughly an old i7-6700 (which is faster than the early quad core Ryzen)

Athlon 3000G if it must be cheaper than $100, and needs to be AM4. AMD has stopped manufacturing much of their low end lineup, so the decent options are scarce.

Either of the games you mentioned would run on any modern AM4 system.

What AM4 motherboard do you have? Are you aware of what BIOS revision is on it? New or used?

EDIT-
I looked at Microcenter and they have nothing available under $200.

Probably worthwhile to look here:
Socket AM4 Processors - Desktops | Newegg.com

That free shipping R5 1400 is a decent deal, as well as the 1600 which would be even better.

My grandson is ten and plays mostly Roblox and Minecraft. From what I've read hyperthreading appears to be not very applicable to those programs. Not certain but it might be something I worry about when he hits his teens. Which is when he'll probably start worrying about it.

i3 with hyperthreading would just last a little longer before it is obsolete. Same with any Ryzen R5, they have six cores and twelve threads. Though first generation Ryzen are closer to old 4th generation Intel chips in terms of single core performance.

But Minecraft will run on practically anything from within the last ten years. Maybe not with some of the fancier mods. Not sure how crazy Roblox can get, they've duplicated so many other games inside there...

My Nephew is a regular player. His Christmas present is my old i7-7700k and a GTX980.

Thanks,
The MB and memory are what I already bought.
Just wasn't sure if it was workable with the Athlon.
Appreciate it

It's for my ten-year-old grandson.
Somewhere around $100-120 for the CPU
I figure three years and I'll have to upgrade it. I assume pricing will have leveled off by then
Athlon 3000g will do just fine for those games especially since you have the 1050 ti instead of the igpu. The am4 socket is extremely upgradeable and there are a lot of options for the socket. It can be had for $90 on amazon.
