Hey all, been a while since i've used toms hardware forums. I am building a new pc, I am sourcing the RAM, CPU and storage from an old Dell Optiplex 9020. The parts I am using from it are an Intel i5-4590 and 8GB of DDR3 RAM (yes old parts) which I most likely will be updating to newer budget components like the i3-12100f and a new motherboard.

With this system, I want to be able to run Sons of the Forest on ultra/high at 60fps, as well as GTA and Phasmophobia, and other games like that but they are easier to run so not as concerned with those. I will be playing Sons of the Forest on a 1080p 144hz monitor.

In my area an RTX 3050 8GB costs around $350AUD, But I have found a used GTX 1660 Super for $200. Which should I go for? If neither, or if there is a better GPU, any recommendations? thanks alot guys.

RX6600 is $280 AUD and is the cheapest late model GPU worth having.

However, with the Optiplex as a base, the RTX3050 doesn't require a power connector and is the fastest/cheapest card in that regard. But you have to verify that the board in question can supply 75W via the slot. Some OEM boards limit this to 35W because the base system comes with a small PSU.

If you aren't using the OEM motherboard and have your own PSU, then the RX6600 makes more sense to save the 70 AUD to put towards the i3-12100F
