My daughter will be taking courses online with CG Spectrum, Courses are Foundations in Visual Effects followed by an advanced diploma in 3D Modeling.
My questions involve: purchasing or building a desktop and/or purchasing a laptop.

First question-Is the RTX 3080 worth delaying the purchase of a laptop until available? Before the RTX announcement I was looking at an Alienware R2 M15 with a RTX2080. Delaying purchase may require building/buying a desktop if my current rig is not adequate.

Second-Will a laptop suffice for the career choice she is choosing? (I know you get better specs out of a desktop build-I'm still using the one I built 4 years ago but a laptop works better for her).

Third-If we wait for an RTX3080 laptop(My guess would be spring before readily available) will my 4 year old build work in the interim:

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Reeven Justice 82.1 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Aegis 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
Storage: Crucial MX300 275GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB SC GAMING Video Card
Case: Deepcool KENDOMEN Black ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive: LG GH24NSC0 DVD/CD Writer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit
Monitor: Acer K272HULbmiidp 27.0" 60Hz Monitor

If none of the above is feasible, what is a recommended build/buy for 3d Modeling? laptop and desktop

I'm more concerned with the product than the cost and have budgeted $5000 US but would love to come way under that as long as the system will last.

Thx for the article link-very helpful. Based on the build above, a Gaming PC will suffice and should last her a long time. I think I'll try to make my PC work in the interim and wait for the rush on 3090's to drop. I like the build.
