swap the Q9550 for an AMD 955 and the motherboard to an am2+ one with a 790GX chipset.

That will save you about $20 and you won't lose any performance.

oh and spend that $20 on upgrading the case to an Antec 300 or coolermaster 690.

Not bad.

I'd change the graphics to this $205 Sapphire HD 4890. It's $35 less, a little quieter from what I've seen in reviews, and trades blows with the GTX 275 and GTX 285 in benchmarks.

It's also a more future-proof choice because it supports Crossfire, just like the motherboard you've picked. If that is interesting to you, upgrade the PSU to Corsair 750TX too.

OK, but for that card I'd suggest a Corsair 650TX instead of the StealthXstream 600W and a RC-690 case. The HD 4850 X2 is huge, you know, and I"m not sure it would fit in that Centurion.

I hardly doubt that card is going to "blow up" with that psu. Btw, that psu is made by Seasonic. It was a combined effort with PC Power & Cooling and OCZ when it came to designing that psu. In fact there is peeps pushing a single gtx 285 with that psu. I just want to see everyone on here get an Intel (i7) so they don't have to settle for a inferior product like an AMD build.

Tell me please...do the builds I post always fit the budget or not ? A lot of people come here for the first time and post build for quads, dual cores, asking for advice in regards to the hardware.. etc... thinking an i7 build is out of their price range. When they find out they can afford them they usually buy them...that and they are happy. Isn't this what it's all about ...making people happy with the builds they purchase ? i7's for everyone !

They happened to be the best value around at that time. Now it's AMD's turn, and unlike you I'm flexible. Let somebody make a decent $100 MB for the i7 and let nVidia drop the GTX 275 to $200 and I'll start recommending those a lot.

If you want a faster multitasker and hands down the most powerful processor on the planet, then go with Why_Me's build. I vote for the i7...but I use my computer for other things than purely gaming (which I do heavily).

Well here's what I came up with. I want to suggest a 4770 CF build over what I put into this wishlist, but there's a little something biting at my fingers telling me not to suggest a multi-gpu system.

I honestly feel that in games that scale to multiple gpus, that they are a godsend to the budget builder. I however cannot stand some of the complications that are inherit to a multigpu setup. I'm not going to go over them all, but I'm sure a lot of you can agree that they have their own set of issues.

What I've put together for a little over $900 is

AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE with a Xigmatek DK
Gigabyte 770 - $70 for a solid board that cuts costs by not using the onboard graphics.
EVGA GTX 285 1GB - best single graphics card, lifetime warranty.
Corsair 650TX- Enough power for everything in the system.
WD6401AALS-Do I need to justify this one?
4GB G.Skill 1066- Don't know about this one for certain, 800 might be fine and cut the cost a bit
NZXT Beta- Cheap, decent airflow, fits GTX 285
LG DVD Burner
