i have a spare AMD A10-5800K Trinity Quad-Core, and was wondering would this be fine with a nas,( i have a older i7 920 with a sata 2 board so not good for a nas) im thinking the A10 is overkill for a nas, looking to have a round 32 TB of HDD
A10 probably is over kill, but it will spend a lot of time in lower power mode, so why not, my Phenom II x6 is used for plex/nas server 2016 and spends a lot of time idling.

You can use just a regular windows version and also host some servers on it (gameserver, webserver,...) if you want. Honestly for nas only purposes a good ol celeron is way more than enough.
You can use freenas if it's only going to be a nas do keep in mind that it needs at least 256mb of ram for each tb of storage (512mb or up is recommend for the best performance).

yeah i thought so, i might have it do other things aswell so more power is better than not enough power

A cpu at idle barely uses power anyways. I made the mistake of getting an amd 5350 apu because it was cheap and low power. I ended up having to initiate a secondary server just to be able to host everything before later switching to an old i5 2400 based system.
