Hey all,
This is the first time I will be putting together a computer. I am planning to build with the combination mentioned below. IF there are, any possible issues please post to alert me to it. Any opinions or advice is also good. I plan to use this computer for gaming for at least the next 4-5 years.
Motherboard: ASUS Rampage 2 Extreme
RAM- 6 sticks of 2GB Corsair DDR3 1600mhz
GPU- 2 ASUS GTX 285 1GB
CPU- Core i7 950 3.06Ghz
Thermal Paste- OCZ Freeze
Heat Sink- Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
Power Supply- Corsair TX-850
Fan- Scythe S-FLEXSFF21G 1900RPM
Optical Drive- LG DVD Burner
Hard drives- 2X’s 640GB SATA 7200RPM Western Digital
Case- Cool Master HAF 932
OS- Windows Ultimate 64Bit until 7 comes out
Some possible issues you may comment on are the motherboard and GPUs not fitting into the case, etc. etc.
If possible, any advice on removing static, I have been told to plug the PSU into the mains and put it into the case but not to plug it into anything and continually touch the PSU or case to ground myself- I will have to build this on carpet so that may be a slight problem. Any advice on putting it together? If you could change something what would it be?

Thanks
Andrew L

I would add some tweaks to your build but first I want to know your budget.

Also- for starters dont get 6sticks of 2GB, get 3 sticks of 4gb, core i7's need triple channel for best performance.
-TELL ME YOUR BUDGET !!!

Don't build it on carpet. Build it in the bathroom if you have to.

You are beyond the point of reason on this build. You have spent about 1K for very minor performance increases. If you are really that rich that's OK I guess.

We don't know where you are getting the parts, where you live, your budget, the size of your monitor, and probably more.

See the sticky post at the top of the forum for a guide on how to ask for advice.

well i havn't found an australian store selling 4 GB sticks if you could point me in the right direction, i'd be greatful

my budget is max 5k no more this system is currently at 3.8k so yea

Andrew

Well...I could build you an extremely powerful system for 5k...and I mean extremely powerful.
Listen to proximan, tell us what resolution you want to play at!!! It will highly affect what you need to play. And in 1 hour, I will get you a build posted up if your respond to what resolution you play at.

1440X 900

WTF? Are you trolling?

If not, either spend some of that epic budget on a NICE moniter, or drop down to a single GTX275. And either way, drop down to a Core i7 920 before they get discontinued and OC it over 3gHz.

Ah...so 1440x900, thats not even 1080p. You can make a system for like 1k (dollars) that can max out any game at that resolution.
-Maybe I should include a better monitor in the build I will make you?

Are you sure that the 920 will be ok overclocking over 3Ghz? i have been told that the 950 is better for OCing.
With the cooling i have from 2.66- over 3ghz sounds risky

well i really dont need it any over 1440X 900 what processor will the 1k comp have?

Well...if you want games to look good, the higher your resolution, then the better it looks. For your budget, you get a nice 30inch gaming monitor with really high resolution like 2560x1920 or something like that and be able to buy a computer to actually support that resolution. And everything will be under 5k

So here is a build, I wont include which store to buy it becuase i dont know which stores are there where-you live. So here are specs

-EVGA Classified Motherboard X58 Chipset LGA1366 Socket Type
-Intel Core i7 975 Extreme Processor
-3x Nvidia Geforce GTX285 Super-clocked Edition Tri-SLI
-12GB (3x4GB) Triple Channel 2000mhz Micron/Crucial Ram.
-1200+ or maybe a 1600watt power supply
-Thermaltake Armor Full ATX Tower Case
-Most likley a liquid cooling system
-30''Inch LCD Gaming Monitor 2ms response time and resolution 2560x1600 supported max.

Totals between 4-5K

-With this build you will be able to aquire within your budget, run any game available at full resolution or any resolution you want with maxed-out settings and completely ridiculously high frame-rates.

Or...

Gigabyte X58
Core i7 920 (OC it to 3.0-3.6)
Dark Knight cooler
GTX275
6GB OCZ Platinum DDR2-1600
Corsair or PCPaC 750W PSU
Antec 900 or 300 or Cooler Master 690
Under $1500, you can run whatever you want maxed on your moniter

OR

Phenom II 940
Gigabyte or ASUS 790FX
Same case, PSU
4GB OCZ Platinum DDR2-1066
HD4890
Under $1200
Run anything on your little moniter maxed as well, less CPU horsepower.

i havent found a place in australia selling 4GB DDR3 sticks not to mention it being 2ghz
