Since you're buying a high-end computer, I'd recommend splurging and getting the MPs. Then you're assured that they actually work in the board (Yahiko couldn't get Tbirds to work, and he tried two boards), and you'll have SSE, prefetch, etc.

I'd stay away from Creative. I've switched recently from a Live 5.1 OEM to a Philips Seismic Edge to a Hercules Game Theater XP. I'm finally happy, with a couple of minor issues.

I'd recommend the Radeon 8500 for $250, unless of course you are biased for nVidia/against Ati. In which case, the GeForce 3 will be great (it's a good card).

is there much difference in price for the Athlon MP, so the sound card, I have a Live Value right now, and I'm very happy with the sound, and yes I'm one of thoses who are on the nVidia side, my very first videocard was a TNT and I loved it, now I use a Matrox DH, and well it does the same as the TNT but on 2 monitors. If you have any advice on a better MB or a great case for doing mods.

Would it be possible for me to ask you to post a personal review on the Hercules Game Theater XP?

I'm in the mood to upgrade, so I've picked up a copy of Sound Forge, and I'd like to plug a few a devices into the new card (if and when I purchase it) such as a drum machine, guitar, keyboard, etc.

Installation glitches? Drivers?

I'd appreciate the info, if you have the time!

Thanks ...

The MP's are about $50 a piece more expensive but perform on par or slightly worse than 1.4's. They have less heat so you don't have to worry about over heating you do with thunderbirds. Another added bonus is that you know they will work and you aren't out the extra 200 you spent on the tbirds.

Don't worry, I'm almost done. It will be posted Here when done (soon). I just need to finish my testing and rearrange a couple of things.
Also in the works is a 4-part editorial about LAN parties and a mousepad review (as mentioned in the other thread here).

EDIT:
Sorry, forgot about the case. I recommend one of the huge Antec ones (SX1030?). They come in black and beige, are large and very popular. Great for modding. ~$100

No problem. Hopefully I'll be finishing it up after lunch. It's so hard to get personal stuff done at work 🙁
