For $100 you will not get a better video card which is what matters the most for a game. If the build is under your budget, then get the E6420 if it fits. Sorry to go back and forth, i thought you budget was smaller. Get the best you can for your money. Otherwise you are good to go, you will play oblivion at a smooth frame rate with your config. Good luck!

Alright, I think I will go with the E6420 then as it still comes in just slightly under budget. I think it's about time to order. Thanks a lot!

Alright so this now makes my rig as follows:
- Intel Core 2 Duo E4300
- Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3
- Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA2
- Patriot Signature Line 2GB 2X1GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800
- LG GSA-H62N SATA DVD+RW
- FSP Fortron SAGA AX450-PN 450W

This all comes to a total of $742.62 CAD, coming in well under my budget. After doing more reading on Oblivion (like I said, I have been so out of the loop), I do want to make sure I can run it smoothly albeit without a lot of the goodies. Should this have me covered? If not I'd be willing to throw in maybe $100 more, and if it'll do the trick then I'm just about ready to order. 😀

Pretty good setup for the price IMO. The only thing you could really do for another 100 would be look into getting a faster vid card, but mind you the x1950 pro is good, i have the same card. Oblivion is a resource hog no matter what machine you are playing on, but you should it smoothly with what you have there after turning down the eye candy a bit.

I have
Athlon X2 2.4GHZ
Asus M2N
1GB DDR2
ATI Radeon x1950 256MB

and it can run Oblivion well with the eye candy turned down a bit and your machine will be more powerful so you shouldnt have much to worry about.
