If the budget is tight, you can explore Intel i5 12400 and B660 DDR4 build.

The Intel 15th gen Bartlett lake will use LGA 1700, so the 15th gen CPUs should be compatible with your mobo if you update the BIOS.

If I wanted to go down the DDR4 route, I would go for AM4. But you guys just dissuaded me from doing so... 😀

PSU: the models on the list are not available in the store I'll be getting my rig from. Would this be a decent alternative: Seasonic Focus GX 750W PSU (FOCUS-GX-750) ?

That's a much better product line to go with.

Mobo: I will consider this too, but once again, going for a better mobo as suggested above would strain the budget consderably, and I don't wanna get wound up in this loop. Edit: I've just read further back ,and the ASRock B650M-HDV m.2 is indeed affordable. I don't mind going for that, although I would have liked a Gigabyte mobo, as I've had nor problems with them ever, for over 25 years now.

This was the cheapest worthwhile Gigabyte board I saw when looking and it's comparable to the ASRock, but it was more expensive by a fair bit so I didn't include it: B650M DS3H.

(I could swap out the ASRock mobo for the Gigabyte one you recommended just above. But if ASRock is reliable now (it didn't use to be back in the day), then I don't care which brand I have.)

The reason for avoiding AM4 is because it has no upgrade path. If you were currently using AM4 with a 3rd gen ryzen I would have indeed suggested the 5700X3D.

The 12400 is not bad, it will still give you 100+ fps in most games when not bound by GPU. And the 15th gen bartlett lake upgrade will get you by for the next 4 years comfortably. So get the 12400 now, upgrade to bartlett lake next year and minimum 5 to 6 years of usage on the same platform.

Most browsers have the translation feature. With your budget known, it would make the job easy for us. Share the link if you can plz.

I cannot have 100+ FPS in games, as my display maxes out at 60Hz. 😀 But that is perfectly fine by me. I'd rather have stable 60 fps all the time than it fluctuating between, say, 70 and 100.

If you don't mind, could you please provide a rig blueprint with the 12400 as well?

It would be slower, especially with 3000 memory, but this is best case scenario (using DDR5): https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-5-7600-non-x/6.html

The 7600 also has integrated graphics whereas the 12400F does not so if you need a fallback for any reason that would be an advantage as well. For long term generally speaking I think AMD with AM5 is a better choice as things stand today.

You don't really need anything beyond the cooler they come with for those parts.

The least expensive cooler that would be a worthwhile upgrade that I saw on the site you're buying from is this: Arctic Freezer 36 CO

I just now realised that the FSP model i linked above is a bronze unit. FSP has great track record for its gold and higher tier units but I have not come across any reviews for their bronze line up.

I would suggest you to go with a trusted model instead:

Yeah, I was just about to ask if I should go for a better PSU because of the FSP model being bronze-rated only. I really do not mind hitting the 400K limit, so it is absolutely fine. I could also go for the G.Skill RAM instead of ADATA if it is better/more reliable.

Not worth the difference, save your money with the ADATA ram kit.

But definitely consider the RX 7600. not much difference in ray tracing with lower end cards.

My issue with AMD cards is that I always hear people complaining they aren't running games very well. The 16GB VRAM is indeed tempting, and I do NOT care about RTX at all; the chief reason I would go for nVidia is DLSS3 and framegen support. Do you have any experience with AMD cards?

Edit: or, to follow up on my question above: would the 4060 Ti with 12GB be worth the extra money they ask for it?

the 4060Ti comes in 8gb and 16gb versions. No 12gb version. for 1080p 60hz gaming, the RX 7600 is more than enough.

My previous card was the RX480. No problems. But that was more than 5 years back.
