I am building an Audio production pc for a friend and I have only ever built gaming pcs so I am a bit lost when it comes to certain parts.
This is all I have currently chosen in regards to the parts.

I would like some advice on whether a sound card is needed and what motherboard to get.
They do some light gaming on the side (sims 3, cities skylines).
They will also be making cover art, music videos and potentially streaming.
A 5.25" drive is a must and must be high quality, have I picked a good one?
budget is $2000aud
Software being used is: ableton, sony vegas, photoshop, FL studio and logic pro.
Thanks in advance for answers.

The work will be mainly done through a pair of high end sennheisers, unfortunately I cannot tell you what model.
Also any suggestions for an alternative optical drive, the one on the list is only sold on amazon and I know nothing about optical drives either.

if ull be using high end headphones, then either soundcard or amp or dac is a must, tbh soundcards these days are made with "gaming" in mind, so it has features like see enemies on radar on your phone and such....
so ud better be with usb dac (which u can also move between computers since its usb)
here some audiophile grade

as for optical drives...am no expert in this area...but todays DVD drives are pretty cheap, compared to what it used to be before..mine optical drive sounds like floppy drive when it seeks (tho i still have old IDE which is super quiet) >.<, not sure about BD drives, here quality should still remain

btw your drive selection has price around 20 bucks iHAS124

comments says its loud at start (for both 04/14 revisions)

That asus one looks good, they will also be using speakers, but ones without an amp, will the asus one be ok for that as well?
Also any mobo reccomendations, idk which ones support new ryzen out of box?

I'd hold up on the soundcard choice until you can get one more piece of information.

Is your friend using an audio interface? Based on the amount of DAWs he is using, I would think so as an audio interface is usually the first thing you get after a DAW and controller. If using an Audio Interface then a soundcard is irrelevant.
