Building gaming pc. (need constructive answers : )

Hi guys, im new here so please tell me if im doing something wrong ^^

i'm building a new rig, and would like your input on the part's i've selected, any response is appreciated

Specs;

Psu: corsair 700W

cpu: i5 3570k 3.4 ghz 6mb cache with cnps10x extreme cooler from zalman

Ram: 8gb ddr3 1600mhz 8-8-8-24

Motherboard: ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77, Socket-1155

Gpu: zotac 580 amp2 edition 3gb

Case: one of the Cooler master Haf series

What do you think about my selection and where do you think the "bottleneck" is? (keep high end gaming in mind ^^)

my guess is that unless you're crazy high end gaming three monitors at 1080p you shouldn't have anything to worry about lol but if i'm wrong i will gladly accept criticism

I like running games at constant 60 fps (highest settings), anything else gives me shudders.. (what? i'm demanding smoothness ^^)

All new games like gta 4, crysis 3, assassins creed. (i must also admit that i'm a graphics addict)

That's it for my recommendations. Everything else looks fine to me. There will be no bottleneck with this build.

3 GB ram won't get you 60 fps. it's more used for frame buffers at higher resolutions.

and you'll need a better gpu to run games maxed at 1080p. get a 7970 ghz edition or GTX 670 (some factory overclocked one, but not the MSI brand)

spend less in motherboard eg asrock extreme4, asus sabertooth is overkill

switch ur graphics to newer series eg, gtx660ti/670 or hd7870/7950, similarly priced or cheaper, plus similar or better performance while consume less power, unless u have a great deal on ur gtx580

500w is very enough to power ur rig if you aren't planning to SLI, Xfire ur gpu, and have enough future proof since future cpu/gpu should be more power efficient

I'm guessing that Corsair 700W is the gamer series? You'l want a 750W unit from the Enthsuiast (TX) series as that has enough PCI-E connectors to support Crossfire/SLI.

That will make a very nice gaming system at 1080p.

Bit of a tip? Don't upgrade to a 120hz monitor, tri-setup, or larger resolution screen. I did that first one, and now I'm afraid I'm going to have to start building my rigs with SLI just to keep up with the games at 120fps.

skip the 580 and go for a 670 or a 7970. better performance with lower power.

with that in mind, you can go for a cheaper 550-650W PSU from a reputable brand. has more than enough headroom for extra HDDs as per the estimated power needed. the extra money you save going for a 550-650W PSU can be spent on a better GPU.

need it to go cheaper? not going to OC the CPU beyond the threshold of a voltage increase leading to high temperature increase? then you can go for a $100-150 Z77 motherboard from Asus, Gigabyte or Asrock. it's not going to affect frame rates by a lot. i don't think it even affect frame rates. going for a cheaper board will also give you the cash to go for an SSD as well.

In that case what you have specced out is pretty good. Although its a year old, the 580 will still perform adequately in modern games.
Wouldn't advise upgrading your graphics any further without upping your monitor resolution.

You can downgrade on the Sabertooth to an AsRock Z77 Extreme4, has all the same features so its just as good.

Aftermarket cooling for your OC capable chip? I advise a CM Hyper 212 EVO if you aren't going to be overclocking that hard.

Of the HAF range, would go for the HAF-XM unless you want the full tower goodness of the HAF-X.

so the 580 is quite good at 1650x1080? i've had lag spikes in gta 4 (same gpu but with amd 965 BE) so i'm a bit baffled .-.

GTA 4 is cpu limited... No idea why your pc is having those problems with the i5 3570k...

GTAIV isnt that well coded and is very CPU dependent, its one of the more fickle games out there.

I may have put it the wrong way, that was with amd's 965 Black edition 3.4 quad Im changing to intel's i5 : )

Ah, ok. thanks for the clarification ^^p i've never struggled with other games, but i seem to lag in borderlands 2 with high physx, though.. (with the amd phenom 965) is it required to have an extra card in sli to run physx at high setting?

Physx is computed on the GPU, not the CPU. You can run a card as a dedicated PhysX, but its only worth doing that if you already have a card laying around.
Though I have heard of issues with Borderlands 2 and PhysX, where regardless of setup there is lag. The solution was to lower the settings until its eventually fixed.
