I’m about to pull the trigger and start buying the parts, but just wanted to check and see if there is anything I should change.

CPU : i5 8400
GPU : EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB SSC
Motherboard : GIGABYTE B360M DS3H
Ram : Ballistix Sport LT 8GB Single DDR4 2666
Power supply : EVGA 550w b3
Storage: WD Blue 1TB SATA 6 Gb/s 7200, and can anyone recommend a cheap ssd?
Display : I’m either gonna get the Acer VG248QE 144hz 1ms monitor (since I’m gonna be playing games that are easy to run like overwatch, and I don’t mind lowering some setting), or an ultrawide 2560x1080 75hz 5ms monitor, which one would you recommend?

Thanks.

Change the RAM to 2x4gb as the system will perform better with dual channel. I would also change out the EVGA B3 for a Corsair CXM as there better quality and may be cheaper. For a SSD I'd recommend the WD Green 240gb M.2.

As for the monitors although as much as I love 21:9 monitors and would highly recommend it one game that doesn't support 21:9 is Overwatch. I have the VG248QE but there are cheaper versions of it out there, or if you'd like to buy mine and live near Mass I'd be more then happy to give you a good price on it as I'm happy with my 2560x1080P/75hz.

Also when I say that Overwatch doesn't support it all it means is that the game will run at a 16:9 ratio with black bars on the sides and besides Overwatch the games that do run at 21:9 look amazing. My LG 29" 2560x1080P/75hz/IPS makes games like Shadow of War, BnS, Tera, Diablo 3, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and others look great and IMHO look much better then the 1080P/144hz TN panels.

I know that overwatch doesn’t support 21:9, but I’m fine with running the game at 16:9 and then having a left over space for things like watching videos or looking at the chat while streaming.
And thanks a lot for the recommendations, you helped me a lot 😀
Btw is 450w really enough?

Forgot to say, I live in the UAE so buying the monitor from you wouldn’t be possible.
And since I buying most of the parts from amazon, is this ram good? Because has the same specs as the one you’ve listed and it’s $80

I’m probably gonna get the 550w version of the power supply since I’m also buying an RGB mouse and and keyboard, do they even make a difference?
I’ve also looked at any builds similar to mine and most of them have a 550w.
And for the ram, would you recommend me getting a 2x8 2400mhz for $150? Or should I stay with the 2x4 2666mhz?

But that 144hz smoothness tho :/

Yea but IPS colors! IDK, I've had both and I will say that I don't play as much competitive FPS as much as I used to which has probably changed a few things for me however having both monitors I still prefer the ultrawide @75hz over 16:9 144hz just because that extra peripheral vision has saved my butt more then a few times in BF4 when someone thought they were being sneaky and I saw them attempting to flank me and took them by surprise, which is even more satisfying when you kill them with the medic pads 😛 .

You need change nothing.
I5-8400 and GTX1060 make a good combo.

Some suggestions:

1. Consider carefully your ram.
Do not buy a single 8gb stick, planning on adding another 8gb later.
It will not be supported and such an addition is not guaranteed to work.
8gb is fine for gaming, so long as you are not also heavily multitasking.
Since you have a budget, I suggest a 2 x 4gb kit so you can run in faster dual channel mode.
Ram speed is not important to intel processors with a discrete graphics card.
If a future 16gb is needed, deal with that issue later.

2. I do not recommend a cheap ssd. The windows device is simply too important. Look for Samsung evo for performance and reliability.
Buy at least 240gb, that will hold a fair number of games. Defer on the hard drive until you actually need the room.
If you can manage a 500gb ssd, you may never need a HDD at all.

3. EVGA is only mediocre quality for a psu.
Here is one list of quality:

Overseas, Seasonic is sold very reasonably and is always a good quality unit.
look for a psu in the 500-600w range to be able to upgrade to a stronger graphics card in the future.
Here is a chart:

4. On a monitor, bust your budget for a very good unit. It will be with you for a long time.
I think gaming on a ultra wide monitor will be more immersive and would go for that.

So which monitor would you recommend?
I don’t think 3440x1440 is an option since it’s too expensive and since I am getting a gtx 1060 (I know that lowering the resolution to 2560x1080 is possible), the same goes for 144hz, way too expensive, so 2560x1080 100hz would be my best bet.

I don't know if they make a 100hz model, I think it's just 75 or 144 from what I've seen. I think only the 3440x1440 come in 60/75/100/120.

I would concentrate in the panel type and resolution.
GTX1060 may not drive a monitor to 100 fps or such.
Adaptive vsync is going to be used to smooth things out.
A IPS monitor will have a better image and a wider 178/178 viewing angle. A good thing for wider monitors.

We all have a budget; do the best you can on the monitor.
That is the one component you are unlikely to change in the future.
