Building my own NAS (Help)

So myself and a friend are building a NAS drive for storing files for work.

We have the parts, cpu, ram, motherboard etc, and got around 6x 300GB hard drives.

I have built Computers for a while now, but have never built a nas drive.

i was wondering if you guys would like to take this journey with me to help me build and start up my NAS.

What OS should i use?
Is there anything i need besides the parts?
etc etc etc, please post what you know and some tips please, will reply to all!

I only got one response really from it but is you're thinking in terms of OS it would be best to go down the linux/freenas route for it they're both and well regarded for running home servers.

as far as building it it shouldn't be different then any other computer. i am running 2003 server on one of mine and vista there is probable a free Linux alternative. on the other you shouldn't need anything else. good luck!
