Burnt CPU?

I recently got a new CPU, tried to put it in my new mobo, and only just found out it's not compatible.. should have researched it more if i wasn't in such a hurry. I put it in my mobo, and booted up my computer, i ran it for like 10 seconds, then it heated up a lot, so i took it out asap, now one of the golden pins looks burnt. Do you think that could affect my whole cpu? If so i'll try to arrange RMA, or deal with it

sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but did you put the Heatsink on the cpu before you turned it on?
Another question what the cpu and motherboard that you just used?
