I've had this computer (built by me and my dad) for over 6 months now, maybe even a year. I've played PUBG on it plenty in the past, but decided to start the game up again last night after a break from it. After a few games, I hear a weird sound, computer shuts off, and tries to reboot...
1) I smell something seconds after it shuts off + tries to reboot, so I turn the power off. Burntish smell, hard to say for sure.
2) Peek through clear side wall of computer, nothing strange. Unscrew and reach inside, GPU feels hot, but nothing extremely hot, imo. I've got liquid cooling and MANY fans, so I have doubts it overheated, especially since I was in a lobby, not in an actual match.
3) Get no signal on HDMI capable (plugged into GPU/graphics card), so I plug into MOBO. I get a signal and can play around on computer, doesn't register my NVIDIA but does register the built in intel card.
4) Turn off and head to sleep to troubleshoot in AM. Wake up and turn on, screen is white and fuzzy, I can move my mouse and see a square block in the fuzz, but that's it. Restart and now it works fine, so I was worried my mobo or CPU might be screwed too?
Where do I go from here? I think my GPU is shot and I need another, but I'm not sure how to test all of this. I don't have another computer around to place parts in and see.I also surmise that since the GPU wasn't extremely hot, and I wasn't gaming, it was a sudden power surge or something, but I'm not an expert.
Specs:
MOBO: Gigabyte Tech. 70X-Gaming 7
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz
Video Card: GeForce GTX 1080 (no clue if that's what you need, that's just what I see on the card itself.)
RAM 32 GB (4 g.skill ripjaws)
All in a big Cooler Master case with MANY fans and a Corsair Link Liquid Cooling system.
