Hi,

This is my first post. I am looking for a business class router for a small accounting firm. Due to security considerations, we are intentionally skipping wireless capability (we can add an AP at a later date).

Here are the choices:
1. Linksys LRT214 Gigabit VPN Router - $133
2. Fortinet FortiGate-60D (used) - $180
3. Ubiquiti Edgerouter PoE Router (ERPOE-5) - $151
4. Watchguard Firebox T10 (WGT10000-US) - $225

The Fortinet unit is used; all others are new. Prices are from Amazon.

I'd like a unit that doesn't require setup or support by an IT consultant. We would like to connect two offices with VPN. I'd guess we will need IPsec and OpenVPN capabilities.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I heard the Ubiquiti is more challenging to configure. Why do you recommend the Ubiquiti Edge over the other products?

I have enough knowledge to setup a peer-to-peer network, map drives, and configure security and sharing in Windows; but not much more. I was able to handle configuration of the old unit that's being replaced (SonicWall TZ150), with some help from Google.

They are no harder to configure than anything else, VPNs will be the biggest challenge but that's the same for any router. The main reason being the integration with there very reasonably priced and very capable wifi products. By using their routers you have seamless roaming, a function that costs a fortune to implement from other suppliers. The APS are powered over a single ethernet link and mesh together. Just my opinion based on experience.

I understand that setting up the Ubiquiti for OpenVPN requires using the CLI; that's not for me. And I don't think setting up an AP will be an issue for a small office.

What's the next best alternative, if ease of use is a high priority?

Just pick one, apart from the one I recommend?
