I currently have a pre built pc i bought from Best Buy a couple years ago. It has an Intel i5 12600kf cpu with GeFroce rtx 3050 graphics card and 32Gb Ram. 600w power supply and a B660 motherboard. I wanted to upgrade my graphics card and bought a Gigabyte RTX 5070. Before i took my PC apart, everything was working as it should and i never had any issues at all, i just wanted to get some more frames at higher settings.

I knew i probably needed a larger power supply and bought a Thermaltake GF A3 1050W 80 plus gold power supply to swap out. I got all the parts hooked up and wires securely fastened (i took them all out and reinserted to ensure they were properly connected) and i cant get anything to display on my monitor(which was working fine when i took the old card and power supply out).

When i power on the computer it boots like normal and my monitor is backlit but i get no display and the VGA light on my motherboard is lit up. The fans on the card are spinning and its getting power but no display. Ive tried to remove the CMOS battery to reset and still nothing.

I reverted back to the old graphics card on the new power supply and i still get no display and the VGA light is still on. Is the issue my new power supply? I can try putting the old power supply back in to make sure i didnt screw up the motherboard on the new card install but all fans and RGB are working as they should. I can hear my HDD spin up when i power on but im getting nothing. i have also tried to remove both graphics cards to use the integrated display on the motherboard, same issue. I am new to upgrading pc's but everything seemed to have went in smoothly.

Any direction would help. Thanks in advance!

Got a link to said prebuilt?

a B660 motherboard
B660 is the chipset the board is based off of, what is the make and model of your motherboard?

I reverted back to the old graphics card on the new power supply and i still get no display and the VGA light is still on.
Might want to breadboard everything in your prebuilt onto your bench table and make sure all your components are fully seated. Double check to see if all connections to and from the PSU to your devices are fully seated. Clearing the CMOS while you've got it breadboarded.

It has an Intel i5 12600kf cpu

You own an F-SKU processor, meaning you have no iGPU, so hooking your display to the motherboard's display output is moot.

I am new to upgrading pc's but everything seemed to have went in smoothly.
Is the only thing you removed from your prebuilt the PSU and the GPU? You sure you didn't unplug anything on accident?

This is the link for the pre built.

I unplugged anything that needs power to swap the supply but as far as I could tell, everything has been reconnected like it should. I have removed the graphics card and tried to reseat it multiple times and it seems to connect fine. I reset the cmos while I was doing that and no change. It’s possible i haven’t plugged something else in as I am new to upgrading my pc but I took pictures of everything that came unplugged and it all seemed to plug back in correctly.

The only thing physically removed from the case was the PSU and the GPU. Processor and motherboard stayed in place.

It's possible that the graphics card cannot receive power with your new power supply for some reason.

How is the graphics card connected to the power supply; are you using a 12VHP cable or are you using a 2x8 pin PCIE to 12VHP adapter cable? Also to make sure, are you using only the cables that came with the Thermaltake power supply? It's also worth checking if your HDMI/DisplayPort cable is securely connected at both the graphics card and the monitor; a bad connection at your display cable can cause the VGA light to come on.

I got it figured out!!

My bios settings hadnt been updated since i bought the computer back in 2022/23 so the motherboard wasnt recognizing the graphics card. I updated my bios from Gigabyte website and the 5070 fired up seemlessly. Like i said, im fairly new into the pc gaming, let alone upgrading my psu and gpu on my own and didnt even know what my bios was until about 12 hours of forum searching and a trip to my local repair shop since i thought i fried the motherboard.

Thanks everyone for your help!
