Hello,
I am about to buy a laptop and need to decide if to get a RAM upgrade.
I am buying a i7 2640M CPU with Win 7 Pro 64.
I use it only for business purposes but lots of multi tasking like word, net browsing, etc. I do not play any games and barely watch any movies. Also I want something which is future proof for at least 3-4 years...
Lenovo is charging 160 USD for increasing 4 GB RAM TO 8 GB.
Should I just buy with 4 GB and self install another 4 GB later on when the need arises and thus save?
Thanks

I would buy the ram after. Go to a ram web site like kingston, and access their ram upgrade app. It will give you a list of compatible ram parts .

Also, consider the possibility of changing out the hard drive for a ssd. It will absolutely transform your laptop.
The initial cost might also be less if you can select a minimum sized hard drive.

Absolutely, buy it later, as geofelt pointed out!

160 dollars is absolutely absurd for a jump up of 4gigs. For business 4gigs is probably going to suffice, and RAM is hands down the easiest component to replace in a laptop. As others have said you'd be much better off waiting to see if you even need more than 4gigs, then hopping on newegg and paying significantly less for more sticks.

Dear Guys!
Thank you very very much for your reply!
This solves my issue completely and I save on a huge pile of money also!
I am indeed buying a SSD as well for the speed change!
Kind Regards
Justin
