Buying a new laptop

Hello,

I am going to college next year and as she did for my brother and sister, my mom will buy me a laptop for my studies. My older brother chose an Asus (Republic of Gamers) Gaming laptop a few years ago, but he, of course, was playing games i stead of studying. My mother got upset and she told me she wouldn't buy me a gaming laptop, just a standard (lame) laptop. She then paid around 1200$ for a Macbook Pro for my sister, so I'm guessing she will pay the same amount for me.

So my question is, what laptop could I buy, that is NOT directly gaming related (not a Republic of Gamers or MSI, for example), but that I could run decent fps with on most games? My budget is around $1000, could probably increase to $1200.

I guess I could maybe build a laptop too, but I've never done it before..

Thanks a lot,
David

Skip the games and get a Microsoft Surface Pro.

It will be perfect for school, as you can use the pen to actually draw/write in OneNote or Windows Journal. Not to mention how thin it is, even with the detachable keyboard.

Sadly each of those laptop descriptions say "Gaming Laptop" in the description...

Clearly, you didn't get what I said.. I want to play games, not spend 1200$ to run Microsoft Word without lagging lol

You're going to college, which I presume you will mainly use it to study / notes.

Good luck getting a "gaming" laptop that's not a gaming laptop.

Listen, my mother wants to buy me a laptop for studying, which I will do but not 24/7, which means I can still play games when I have free time. I just want a decent laptop that's not written "THE BEST GAMING LAPTOP EVER" on it, cause then my mom won't buy it for me. I just want a laptop that can run games like Csgo in a decent fps rate, and in the best of worlds, games like Arma III, but I doubt it's possible since I don't want a laptop only for gaming.

Hope you understand,
