Because Verizon offers 100Mbps, so by offering 101Mbps their marketing can claim they have the fastst available speed.

This is the kind of broadband news I love to see. The stuff about capping and litigating to prevent local governments from providing low cost broadband were making me depressed.

Cablevision: No...we need to go all the way to..ludicrous speed!
Time Warner: Ludicrous speed?!?! Sir, we've never gone that fast before..
Cablevision: What are you, chicken?
Time Warner: No..we just figure that if we give people real internet, they might get mad when we take it away and charge them more.

The upload speed is a bit limited in comparison. I moved from Optimum Boost 30Mbit/5Mbit to FiOS for 20Mbit/20Mbit. If it was 50Mbit/50Mbit for $75-ish I'd jump at it.

[citation][nom]mlopinto2k1[/nom]Maybe it makes an even MB/s speed.. who the hell knows. Go do the math.[/citation]

101Mb = 12.625MB so *shrug*. Maybe its so they can advertise "Over 100 MB/s internet connection speed!!!!".

[citation][nom]Warsaw[/nom]/jealousThat's all I have to say.*Shakes fist at comcrap and char(tier)*I'm going to pack my bags and head for NY![/citation]
Screw that. Head to Japan.

wow, finally, somebody kissing up to their customers, too bad this area is not serviced by them. cable monopolies suck, wish others had the same speed for the same price!

Cablevision is so freaking unreliable had there highest package and I get disconnected from games almost every 2-3 games. Switched to Verizon Fios and all the problems were solves. Don't get Cablevision!!

[citation][nom]cliffro[/nom]Too bad I'm a TWC customer, I'll never see speeds like that anytime soon.I also had to LOL at the Spaceballs reference.[/citation]
Dark Helmet is so quotable for many tech stories 😀

In order to accommodate all the computer geeks, they will now be releasing the all internet speed values in binary (but you'll only find that in the fine print), so 101 in base 2 converts to 5 in base 10. Woohooo, superfast 5 Mb/s! :)

I would go to them and dump time warner if only we had competition in portland maine.
we need to have healthy business competition in every state so we can see more ISP's and have a broader choice.
Cablevision sounds OK but I don't have them.

Sorry guys but Cable vision is only available on the East coast. They're not the greatest & neither is Fios. I've talked to people who have Fios & it isn't much better; Verizon's service contracts stink.
