Hey guys, so I just came home from work and my computer had randomly updated even though I have updates turned off. I now have an unactivated version of windows 10 enterprise instead of my windows 10 pro 64 bit. WTF?

Solution

And you are SURE that it was Win 10 Pro previously?
Because it cannot do that.

Installs obtained from school are often Enterprise.
And also, they may run out after a while and become unactivated.

Having Win 10 Enterprise from school is not out of the ordinary.
But there is no automagic Update/Upgrade from Win 10 Pro to Win 10 Enterprise.

It can't do that.
Where did your Win 10 Pro come from?

Yes I'm sure. I'm just incredibly confused how this could happen. Is there anyway somebody could be using it to remotely access my pc?

That's what I was thinking. Perhaps Microsoft requires activation once per year to make sure you are still eligible (i.e. still in school) to continue using the discounted product.

possible but very rare

How to convert Windows 10 Pro to Windows 10 Enterprise using ICD

Multistep process, involving a bunch of other tools.

There is no automagic way to do this.

Yea, I'm in a chat right now with microsoft support. I'll be sure to update.

The person I talked to said there is no way that could happen. I'm incredibly confused right now.

It can't do that.
I have no idea.

Like coming home and finding a new engine in your car.
It can happen, but not all by itself.
