[SOLVED] Can a bad DVD-ROM drive cause damage to a computer in good condition

If you plug in a DVD-R/W drive of unknown condition, potentially bad in any number of ways damage a health computer.

I am scavenging parts from an old computer that died while I was away for 2.5 years. It has a 5.25" internal ASUS DVD-RW drive in unknown condition. I have a new computer and was curious if its safe to plug it in?

Solution
It certainly could over spin or have something inside wrong and blown up the first DVD you put in it.... But even that is unlikely. If it's toast most likely it just won't be recognized
